Udon

有名な日本食に、うどんというものがあります。これは小麦類の穀物から作られるもので、日本人に非常に愛されている食べ物でもあります。

そして、うどんに対するこだわりを持っている人も多く、数百年前から味や食感を追求する人が多くいました。

その結果、美味しいうどんが数多くでき、そのうどんを食べるために３時間待ちする店が出るほど人気のある食べ物となりました。

先日、このうどんがロシアに進出しているという記事をみて驚きました。

しかも売値は日本の値段の約三倍なのに、一日に約３００人以上がうどんを食べに店に来るというのですから、さらに驚きです。

日本食であるうどんが海外に認められたと思いますとうれしく思いますが、それ以上に海外にうどん市場を開拓した人たちを尊敬してしまいます。

 

 

The type of thick wheat-flour noodle popular in Japanese cuisine is called “Udon”. Japanese love to eat Udon. So, There are lots of people who are having their own persistency of the Udon. And also from hundreds of years ago, there are lots of people who are chasing up the texture and the taste of the Udon. As a result of that, there are many kinds of good tasted Udon has became famous and the people have to wait for two hours to eat Udon in some restaurants.

 

The other day, hearing that the Udon business has expanded to the Russia frightened me. And more surprise was that, even though the selling price is three times comparing to Japan, more than three hundred people per day are coming to eat Udon in some restaurants there.

 

I feel very happy because the other countries accepted Udon as a Japanese cuisine in their country. And more, it is respected to the people who opened up the market in the overseas.

Mother’s Day

日本では5月の第二日曜日を母の日としています。つまり明日の5月9日は母の日です。

アメリカ、中国、カナダ、オーストラリア、ドイツ、イタリアなど様々な国も同じく明日が母の日のようです。

この母の日は、母親に感謝の気持ちを伝えるためにカーネーションを贈ることが多く、この時期になるとカーネーションの花が写っている広告や雑誌をよく見かけます。

ある説では、母の日は1907年の5月にアメリカのとある女性が母親に白いカーネーションを贈ったことが起源とされており、１００年以上前からカーネーションを贈る風習があるようです。

 

In Japan , second Sunday of May is called “Mother’s Day”. So tomorrow, 9^th of May, is Mother’s Day. And the same day, America , China , Canada , Australia , German and Italy are also celebrating the “Mother’s day”. Nowadays it is rather a marketed holiday, and people typically give flowers such as carnations as gifts by conveying emotional feeling. So in this season, it is shown up carnations on the advertisements as well as in the magazines.

The birth of “Mother’s Day” was because of the American women giving white carnation to her mother on May 1907. It has became a custom that giving carnations from more than hundred years before.

先日、今治市に行ってきました。今治市は四国と呼ばれる島にあり、造船とタオルで有名な都市です。造船においては日本の船の４分の１を製造しており、タオルにおいては日本一の生産量を誇っています。特にタオルは、中国製品が広まってきていた為に業界が縮小し続けていましたが、現在は非常に品質の良いものを生産していて「今治タオル」といわれているブランドを確立しています。それに伴ってタオルの博物館などもでき、観光地としても魅力が出てきていますので、もし四国に行かれることがありましたら寄ってみてはいかがでしょうか。

 

Last week, I went to Imabari city. Imabari city is situated in Shikoku Island and this city is famous for shipbuilding and producing towels. Around 25% of ships in Japan are manufactured in this city and the number one towel production of Japan is going to the market from this city.

Japanese towel industry showed some scaling down because of Chinese products has been spread in the world. But, at the moment Imabari towel brand is promoting their products in good quality to the industry to a great extend. For the establishment of promoting their brand they have designed some sightseeing area as well as museum in that area. So if you go to Shikoku area you can have a visit there also.

 

 

 

 

 

 

cherry blossoms

3月27日

日本では桜の花が咲き始めました。桜は世界中にある木で、種類も３０以上存在していますが、日本ほど思い入れがある国はないと思います。特にソメイヨシノとよばれる種類の桜は非常に日本人に愛されており、樹齢何百年といった桜の木は神木として崇められているものもあります。また、この季節になると日本では桜の木のまわりで独特の光景が見られます。それは「花見」といわれているものです。この「花見」は桜の花を見ながらお酒を飲んだり食事をしたりするもので、桜の名所では二日前から場所取りを行なっている人もいます。ただ、ソメイヨシノとよばれる種類の桜の花は、だいたい2週間ほどで散ってしまいますので、見に行かれる人は今日から２週間ほどのうちに計画を立てたほうがいいと思われます。

 

The cherry blossoms have started to bloom in Japan . Cherry blossoms have many places in the world and there are more than 30 types of cherry trees. But

I think there is nobody develops some feelings for cherry blossoms like Japanese. Especially, Japanese loves the cherry tree called “Prunus yedoensis” very much. And also, the cherry trees, which are over periods of hundreds of years, are respected as sacred trees.

In addition, we can see typical scenes around cherry trees in this season. This is called “Hanami”. “Hanami” is the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the beauty of flowers and having outside parties. There are some people who reserve their places to have parties two days before cherry blossoms. Because of out of bloom of Prunus yedoensis within two weeks, I think, the people who are wishing to see cherry blossoms have to adjust their schedule for two weeks beginning from today.
