This week, I happened to have a look at the magazine "The English Journal" at a bookstore.
Actually, this is a perfect material for me to practice listening/ speaking.
Following the guideline, I tried four steps with scripts and a CD.
steps are:
1 Listen to the CD to grasp the main idea
2 Read the script to check what I thought is told about.
3 Read aloud along the CD with the script
4 Shadowing ( without the script )
I took the first chapter of the magazine, which was the interview with Helen Millen,
an Academy award winner for the role of Queen Elizabeth ¶ in "The Queen".
Listening was quite easy. I love movies and already knew much about this film,
and Helen's way of talking was clear ( and elegant ). Really fun to do.
Step 2 helped me to build vocabulary.
The tough one was shadowing.
I need to keep focusing on the sounds and copy them simultaneously, almost no thinking.
It was like, being a parrot!
Quite challenging, but I found it absotutely effective for speaking.
My mentor once advised me to try shadowing over one script at least 3 times.
The magazine has about 10 chapters,
so I think I can finish it all in a month.
Happy to have a great magazine.
I decide to subscribe it from next month.
