In the world, there are many children who have mental health problems that lead children to weaken their ability to adapt in their society. Mental health disorders (MHD) cause children to be in poor physical condition, to lose self-respect, to become dull of mind, to be troubled with insomnia, to loose of appetite, and to become school truants. There are many different types (over 12 types) of MHD and factors, therefore it is difficult to take care of the children. They can get MHD easily from different traumatic experiences; including abuse, bullying and other negative life experiences. In addition, the social and educational systems are not enough to take care of them. Most people, teachers, and MHD children¡Çs families also misunderstand about MHD and how to take care of these children. Moreover, teachers are too busy to take care of them. The problems of MHD can be solved through medical care, psychotherapy, appropriate health education, and correct understanding. These solutions have to be combined appropriately.
To begin, we can use pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. Pharmacotherapy uses some different medicines. For example, antianxiety agents (drugs) and sleeping pills are used to treat depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and insomnia. Antipsychotic agents are used to treat psychotic conditions when a calming effect is desired (especially, for integration dysfunction). And antiepileptic drugs are used to inhibit or control seizures associated with epilepsy. Psychotherapy also has many different methods to take care of MHD¡Çs children. The therapists use various treatment techniques and combine them with medication. It¡Çs a very good way to find the children¡Çs problems and to take care of them effectively.
Secondly, we should try to make health education a core course for teacher education. Currently, most teachers do not know how to take care of their MHD¡Çs students very well. They need to learn certain psychotherapy techniques to actualize healthy school environments. For instance, try to share problems and experiences with colleagues, parents and administrators through meetings, try to loan out the children with other teachers, class and environment, and then try to collate feedback on particular trait being addressed. If the teachers learned appropriate approaches and had enough time to learn how to take care of their students, they would encourage themselves and make good relationships with their colleagues, students and their parents. It would also lead teachers to find their student¡Çs problems and solve or assist them easily. Students will be encouraged by teachers, as well. It would lead students to have confidence and make good relationship with their teachers.
Finally, all people who are around these children should be educated in order to change attitudes towards each other. Most families misunderstand MHD and how to approach their children. At times, they give incorrect advice to their children. It causes these children to get worse. The families have to know what MHD is and how to take care of them correctly. For example, families should try to pick out the children¡Çs healthy points and praise them, and not solely criticize or advice. Families should try to listen and understand children¡Çs feelings. Neighbors also have to know about MHD and support the children¡Çs families in case families become too tired to take care of their children. Supporting each other makes families of MHD children sustain good mental health. This leads to better care for the children.
Mental health problems weaken children ability to adapt in their society. If we don¡Çt take care of them appropriately, there can be many suicides and school truants. Families of MHD children can also get MHD. We can solve the problems through a combination of medical care, psychotherapy, appropriate health education, and right understanding. Of course, these solutions have to be combined appropriately. We must emphasize love, because it can help children to find their own potential, prevent the loss of self-respect, reduce action problems, and help them to get well soon.
