I can't belive it is almost 10 year i visit Japan for the first time.
Just after my college graduation i decided to join an international volunteer project in japan, As my major was biological study i choose a environmental protection project.
The camp was located in Akabane-cho, a little rural fishertown on Aichi prefecture where, each year, giant loggerhead turle ( umigame ) nested.
As i didn't speak a word of japanese and just a little bit english traveling in japan was a big adventur for me :p but i managed it !
What volunteer do ?
The project was to protect turtle nests and eggs and aware local people and tourist ( mostly surfer ) about turtle's protection in Japan, as most turtles and tortoise are higthly endengered species.
We also join the "turtle day" a local event where all the little tutle breed in the nagoya aquarium where released to the ocean, an unique and magic moment !
Joining this project was a great chance for me to discover the "inside" Japan, far away from the giant and busy megalopolis ... and fall in love with this country
