仮に、「あなたの英語勉強に役に立ったのは何？」と聞かれたら、もちろん色々あるんだけど、強いて一つを選べと言われればFRIENDSだろうなあ。何といっても日常会話に役立つフレーズが多いというのが良いね。難しいニュースや新聞や小説は、それ自体すごく勉強にはなるんだけど、生活にはあまり役に立たないんだよね。


というわけで、FRIENDS 3-11より。


end up doing 「結局…することになる、最後には…することになる、…する羽目になる」
I go up there to yell and then I end up apologizing to him.

いやしかし、久しぶりに見るとこの早口英語に全くついていけないなあ。。。
継続は力なり、ひたすら続けて勉強するしかないってことみたいです。

相変わらずの英語勉強、なかなか思ったようにははかどりません。
しかし、以前よりは確実に上達しているという実感はある。語彙も増えつつある。
この調子で地道に頑張っていこう！って、ものすごく地道だけど。。。


FRIENDS 3-8より。

Well, I'm going to the dentist, so listen, okay, just be on the lookout for anything that, that, that you can fall into, or, or that can fall on you, or... All right, just look out!

Well, they painted over the word "sapien," for one thing, then they rearranged the figures. Let's just leave it at that.

英語備忘録 11

ドラマや本による勉強は、確かに勉強にはなっているんだけれど、役に立っているかと言えばなかなか難しい。覚えたはずの新しい表現の大部分は、数日後（ひどいときは翌日）には頭のなかから綺麗さっぱりいなくなってしまっているのだ。なんというザル頭。。。

こんな時、英語を覚えることのコツは、「実際に自分で使う」のが一番である。

つまり、何度も繰り返して読めば覚えることは出来るが、またすぐ忘れる。もう一度読んで、また忘れる。これを忘れないようにするには、実際に自分で使ってみて、頭で覚えると言うよりは体で覚えてしまうのだ。こうするとその後に忘れてしまう確率は劇的に下がる。

そうやってすぐ実践応用できる、というのが留学生活の大きな利点である。
ぜひ活用しなければ。。。と思いつつ、なかなか難しいんだけどね。頑張れ、私。

こんばんは。
英語備忘録、日常会話もおぼつかない私にとってはかなりハードルが高いのでいつも楽しく流し読みしています。笑
こういった表現を覚えようとなさっているということは、gucciさんはもう結構レベルが高いのだなあと察します。

確かに留学中に覚えた表現を使えるというのは利点ですが、私は周りが留学生ばかりという状況なので、自分の知っている表現と相手の知っている表現がかみ合わないという場合も多くてマイナーな(?)イディオムを使うのは躊躇ってしまいます。
語学留学も実はネイティブと話す機会は少ない場合も多く、考えものですね。

覚えようとはしていますが覚えられないのが難点ですね（笑）。まさにgo straight over my headという感じです。私の英語レベルはかなり低いので、ちょっと無理をしている感がありますね。。。
周りが留学生ばかりという状況は、どこにいっても似たようなものだと思います。私の周りもそうですから。そんな中でもnativeがどこかにはいるので（なんといってもアメリカですから）、できるだけそういう人を相手に会話するのがbestだと思ってます。

引き続きHarry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkabanから、第7章〜第11章より。
やっぱりFRIENDSに比べると日常生活にすぐ役立ちそうなものは少ないね。まあでもいつか役に立つかもしれないし。
