FRIDAY, JULY 17 - SOUTH BEND, IN - The second day of practices at LaBar Fields reacquainted the Notre Dame Football Legends with the physically demanding discipline of two-a-days as they continued preparations for the Notre Dame Japan Bowl.
On Sunday, the 58-man roster will depart for Tokyo to spend a week helping to celebrate 75 years of 'American Football' being played in Japan. The highlight of the visit will be a game played against the Japanese senior national team at the 55,000-seat Tokyo Dome in the nation's capital city on July 25.
Reviewing the film... The offense and defense and in turn individual groups from both sides of the ball had an opportunity to break down film from Friday's morning practice. Each group met in the Monogram Room and the Hammes Auditorium at the Joyce Center on campus.
Smile please... the players, coaches and staff who will travel to Japan were immortalized by Mike Bennett of Lighthouse Imaging in a team photo taken inside the famed Notre Dame Stadium.
Casting an eye... over Friday's morning practice was University of Notre Dame head football coach CHARLIE WEIS, who spent some time talking with Notre Dame Football Legends head coach LOU HOLTZ and then watched practice for a while. Some players from the Fighting Irish football team also paid an inquisitive visit to practice on Thursday including quarterback JIMMY CLAUSEN and offensive lineman MIKE GOLIC Jr. Friday afternoon's practice intrigued more of the current crop of Notre Dame future legends, including nose tackle IAN WILLIAMS.
On the record... "I miss coaching and I didn't know much until I walked through this door and started working with this team," head coach LOU HOLTZ told the Notre Dame Football Legends. "I will give you every bit of leadership and preparation as is humanly possible. I want you to have fun and am grateful for the sacrifices you have made in your personal and professional lives to be here on this team.
Injury report... full back DEAN LYTLE limped out of practice with a torn Achilles tendon during Friday's afternoon practice and will not be able to line up against Japan.
