Keiai University
United Nations Global Compact Project
What is the United Nations Global Compact?
In 1999, at the World Economic Forum, then U.N. General Secretary Kofi Annan challenged businesses, governments, and academic organizations around the world to adopt ten principles of social responsibility. In addition to such standard considerations as profit, growth, and cost, organizations which pledge to abide by these guidelines are expected to also consider the societal and environmental ramifications of their work.
Academic Version
In order to broaden the scope and understanding of the Global Compact, the United Nations has made provisions for academic organizations to become participants in the program by conducting research on and establishing curricula around the UNGC ten principles.
Keiai University
In 2006, Keiai University became the first Japanese university to participant in the Academic Version of the Global Compact. Keiai is required to report each year to the United Nations on its initiatives which include instruction in CSR (corporate social responsibility), outreach to city officials and local business, and a series of seminars on the meaning and goals of the Global Compact.
