ラテン語からきていますね。法律の文書などで見かけます。 post-hoc consent、post hoc agreement でときどき使われますね。医学用語と違って、知っていてよい単語だと思います。

post hoc consent/agreement の "post" と "hoc" の間にハイフンが要るのかどうか気になって調べてみたら、次のような情報がありました。
Hyphens are not used in Latin or foreign phrases even if they modify a noun (e.g., "post hoc testing" or "in vivo experiment").

すみません！ 何か足りない感じがしていたのですが、正確には「ex post facto 」例；ex post facto law で遡及的に（retroactively）に使われます。 ad hoc はその場限りの makeshift, interim, あたりかな？

in situ は in the original or correct place だから （参考：Oxford ADVANCED LEARNER'S Dictionary 7th edition）
ニュアンスに違いがあるのですね。

例えばRat に遺伝子を抑制する"薬"投与することにより、そのRatの経過を探ればin vivo、 Ratの細胞。組織を取り出して同じような状態で（temp. ph. etc）培養（culture）して実験すれば in vitro
一長一短がある。後者は細胞レベルで調べられる訳だが、果たして本当に体内と同じ条件なのか？
