ベトナムのケンタッキー［KFC in Vietnam )］

去年、約６年振りに訪問したホーチミン市で散歩している時にケンタッ
キーを発見しました。タクシーの車体も新しく、経済が成長しているこ
とが窺えます。

因みに、タイでは、ケンタッキーとは言わずに、KFCと言います。

The last year I visited Ho Chi Minh for the first time in six years and
encountered KFC. The taxi is new. The economy seems to be growing.

Just in case, while they call it Kentucky in Japan, they call it KFC in
Thailand.

ホーチミン市の建物 (Buildings in Ho Chi Minh City)

去年の６月約６年振りにホーチミン市に行きました。

想像以上に発展していました。

そこで、ベトナムの経済成長の推移を調べてみました。

毎年着実に成長しており、10年間でGDPは２倍近くになっています。
なるほど、このペースなら６年間で街の状況がだいぶ変わるはずだと思
いました。

しかし、IMFの資料によると2005年の一人当たりのGDPは636米ド
ルにしか過ぎません。中国、タイのこの値はそれぞれ1,700米ドル、2,577
米ドルです。一人当たりのGDPが全てを表す訳ではありませんが、ベ
トナムの庶民の生活水準が現時点の中国やタイに追いつくまでの道のり
は長そうです。

The last June, I have been to Ho Chi Minh City for the first time
in about six years. The southern Vietnamese city developed much
more than I had assumed.

The three photos were taken then.

I reviewed the movement of Vietnamese GDP. It has grown steadily
and its scale is almost doubled in the last decade. I thought
that it is understandable that the atmosphere of the city has
changed drastically for the last six years.

However, in accordance with a file compiled by IMF, Vietnamese
per capita GDP as of 2005 is just $636. The numbers of China
and Thailand are $1,700 and $2,577 respectively. Though the
per capita GDP data do not reflect the true circumstances of
living, it is apparent that it will take much time for Vietnam
to overtake China and Thailand in light of living standard
of average people.

ベトナムの朝：開店準備 (Morning in Vietnam: before opening shops)

写真の記録を見ると７時半くらいに撮影したものです。夜が暇なので早
起きです。

皆さん、多分、今日は儲かるようにと祈りながら開店準備を進めている
ことでしょう。

一番右の親父さんは余裕をかましていますね。商品回転率が極端に低
い骨董品の商売なので、慌てても仕方ないということでしょう。ある程度
お金が貯まるとこのようなのんびり商売もいいかなと思います。

According to a record, this photo was taken around at 7:30. Since I
had nothing to do in the night, I woke up early.

I think that probably everybody is opening his/her shop or stand,
praying that s/he can make money on that day.

By the way, a man in the right edge of the photo seems to be relaxed.
Since stock turnover is extremely low in this antique business, he
seems to understand that he has no choice but to wait. After I make
money to some extent, it is not a bad idea to do this kind of slow
business.

ベトナムの海岸線

帰りの飛行機は窓際の席でした。

ちょうどベトナムの海岸線を通過する時に撮影したものです。
霞んでいてちょっと見づらかったです。

A window seat was assigned on my return journey.

The photo was taken just when the airplane passed the Vietnamese coastline.
The sight was not so good because of the fog.

６年前のホーチミン市の写真ですが、左右どちらも歩道は、商売を
する人や暇をつぶす人でいっぱいです。なかなか活気がある感じが
します。
