MERRY CHRISTMAS 2010!

イメージ 2

Don't they come around quickly these days? Unbelievable! But they say time flies when you're having fun!
Here it is already Christmas Eve and time to reminis about all the good times we had with you last year and tell you a little news.
2010 was a year of new beginnings for us. Filled with happy times with family and friends, lovely holidays, and sport!! :)

Oli started Year 5 at his High School this year. He has loved every minute of it. It was a big change for all of us - suddenly he was catching the bus, and training for sport at school (yipee). It was very busy and tiring at times to keep up with all his new found commitments and wardrobe changes (They are keen for them to wear school uniform to and from school, but change into (and out of) sports gear all the time :)
He had a wonderful year. He's made lots of new friends, and enjoyed his old ones in new situations.
He played football (soccer) for the first time and cricket, for the school, as well as Club Cricket (of the four hour long match kind :) They did 3 terms of Italian and have started learning French, and he even got to play the cello for 2 terms. Pretty lucky hey? With Little Athletics and Scouts thrown in on Friday nights, he's been kept pretty busy.

Jakob loved Year 2. He played Baseball at the beginning of the year and then wanted to try his hand at cricket this season, which started in September. He just adores it! He is in a beautiful team - truly gorgeous kids and parents - so it's been a great experience all round. Jakob has had a great year at Cubs - they've been to Regattas (boating competitions), hikes, excursions, camps and now he's off to a national "Cuboree" in January for 5 days. He still loves to swim and enjoys finishing off the week at Little Athletics too.

Alexander started Big School this year in a really nice class, and had lots of fun. He loves Maths and reading so we're off to a good start. He also began playing baseball for the "Bandits" which he adores. His coach, 15 year old Callum, has lots of good ideas for training, and Rob and I have volunteered to be Managers again. Alexander loves his Little Athletics and swimming too.

Rob and Mike still manage their weekly battle on the Squash court, and with Baseball training, and cricket watching every weekend he's keeping out of trouble too :)

I really enjoyed working with Kindergarten this year. I had three different schools each day on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, which kept me busy on the road, but also allowed me to change my head around from Kindy to high school and back again. I read with Alexander's Kindergarten class on Monday mornings until 11am which was terrific too.

Our absolute highlight of the year was spending a glorious month with Farmor, Farfar and Dorte (and their dogs) on their beautiful beach in Svinø. We went searching for crabs and flint stones, had friends around for swims and BBQs, went to the circus, a Safari park, and visited all our old haunts :) Paradise! We were also lucky enough to spend 6 wonderful days with friends from Sydney who had moved to Switzerland. We mountain climbed up 2800 m above sea level to overnight in a gorgeous snow covered cabin arriving just before a spectacular thunder storm and trekking down in beautiful sunshine the next day. Then we turned right and headed for 4 days camping in the Lake district of Northern Italy. We visited the old capital Bergamo, and the stunning Cathedral of Milano, and enjoyed some long lazy days by the lakes. It was just as beautiful and relaxing and fun as you are imagining that it would be :)

Then it was back to work and play, we blinked and it was Christmas!

Hope you've had a wonderful year too, and that your new year brings love, hope and many happy adventures!
Looking forward to making happy memories with you in 2011!

Love Rob, Abby, Oliver, Jakob and Alexander xxxxx

NAIROBI (AFP) - A baby hippopotamus that survived the
tsunami waves on the Kenyan coast has formed a bond
with a giant male century-old tortoise in an animal facility
in the port city of Mombasa , officials said.

The hippopotamus, nicknamed Owen and weighing about

300 kilograms (650 pounds), was swept down Sabaki
River into the Indian Ocean , then forced back to shore
when tsunami waves struck the Kenyan coast on

December 26, before wildlife rangers rescued him.
