In order to get the authoritative links that Google respects and sustain your search rankings, you need to concentrate on getting contextual links (i.e., links surrounded by relevant content). The canonical URL tells you / Google what the source of a page is. The activity generated by social media suggests that your website is trustworthy, worth sharing, currently important to people, and is being referenced as a valuable resource. The real goal of SEO is to create authority; and the faster you accomplish domain or page level authority for any website, the faster keyword conquests are realized and achieved. Today, queries don’t just return a list of ten blue, ordered links. They return results with images, videos, profile pictures, and all manner of meta data that help searchers choose the best result.

URL structure acts as a categorization system for readers

Chances are, there are a number of sites that cover topic areas similar to yours. Opening up communication with these sites is usually beneficial. Hot topics in your niche or community could spark additional ideas for content or building a good community resource. Monitoring tools are a huge part of ensuring only quality links are connected to your site, and give you an easy way to remove any negative or potentially harmful ones. Focusing on user intent can help you as a business owner to optimize content based on ‘intent’ unlike before when you were optimizing content solely for SEO. It can help you build content marketing strategies around intent. It appears that when attempting to improve search engine ranking for a web-site, a position in the top six of the search engine results page has never been more important. Even web pages that currently have a top search engine ranking cannot afford to be complacent. Google uses over 200 ranking factors, and some of the most powerful ranking factors involve backlinks.

You want to define yourself so that your prospects know what to expect

Think of a sitemap as a list of files that give hints to the search engines on how they can crawl your website. Sitemaps help search engines find and classify content on your site that they may not have found on their own. Your site navigation should be present and easily identifiable. Visitors should be able to navigate your site with ease, and ideally, be able to get to any page on your site with no more than 3 clicks. This provides a quick and easy user experience and ensures visitors don’t have to spend an eternity trying to find what they’re looking for. Research other business websites and encourage them to link to your site. Joint ventures are a good way to exchange links and benefit each other’s business as well. One way to approach SEO is to write catchy headlines. Here′s what I can say, and it′s not a personal opinion, but a common fact: PPC brings results fast, but you have to pay all the time. The sums get rather big. And you never know for sure, whether PPC will pay for itself, or it′s just money down the drain. The online audience has evolved and expectations are high. They are mobile, they are time poor and they live in a world where sharing ideas and content on social networks is just a natural part of consuming online content.

Don't bury information in your content

Gaz Hall, a Freelance SEO Consultant from SEO Hull, commented: "Google’s robots, or “spiders,” crawl the Internet by “clicking” one link after another after another. They discover new pages and websites as part of that crawl, and store the content of each of those pages in a giant database." Do your maths - its one of the primary resources for this sort of thing. Its as simple as KS2 Maths. Really! Keyword research methods have evolved in concert with more intelligent search engines and changing user preferences. Since Google launched their Hummingbird algorithm in 2013, their search engine is now operating largely on the basis of semantic search. Know your audience – surveys and your analytics software can help you get a better picture of your typical visitor or client. Effective content curation, better accessibility practices and proper information architecture are all key components for strong SEO. Through links, search engines use robots called crawlers and spiders to skim information, collect data, catalog content and make connections based on relevant information. As spiders gather together all this information, they break down, prioritize and sort related information using a process called indexing.

What should be your strategy for those long keywords?

Implementing the right SEO strategy is one of the most effective techniques in this regard. Search engine optimisation can help attract highly targeted traffic to your business – which can improve the sales and conversions over time. A meta description is a short paragraph which is displayed under a title tag on the SERP (see screen above). A meta-description gives you the opportunity to introduce your brand before a searcher pays a visit to your site and actually sees the products that you offer. SEO will never die! As long as the web is around, people will need to search to find what they want, and some algorithm will control what gets served up first. Set up keyword trackers, such as Google Alerts or Mention, to track every single post containing your keywords. Creating content that consistently drives traffic to your site is a win; however, not all traffic is created equal. The challenge is finding a balance of content that is interesting, sustainable, and relevant to your business interests.

A best practice for SEO is that every piece of content should be tailored to one unique keyword

Until Google get their act together, unethical and spammy SEO techniques (black hat SEO) will always exist. You can make sure you have chosen the right SEO phrase to win in two steps. First, think about what you would search for to find that content. We use search every day, but sometimes don’t pull on our own experience when writing for SEO. Even if the phrase sounds a little too detailed or random, remember that it came from a real human (you) — so it’s probably winnable. Second, test your phrases in the Keyword Planner of Google AdWords to see how competitive they are to win. Once you find the perfect phrase that straddles those two steps, you have a winner. Setting up a successful SEO strategy can be quite hard. Investing in your skills will definitely pay off though. In short, Google is looking for signs of quality, relevance and great design. At the end of the day, Google does not care about you as a content creator. You are not Google’s customer! Google’s customer is the end user who searches for a keyphrase because they want to get relevant information or find the answer to a question. Video content is a great way to drive engagement from your visitors. Facebook users are now watching over 100 million hours of video per day on the social network alone, and video is becoming an increasingly cost effective format for advertisers. From an organic search point of view, video has a few issues, especially if you're not hosting your video content through YouTube. The biggest problem is that search engines can't understand the content within video (yet).
