いつの間にか眠って死ぬ程聴いた！ 私が愛したSONNY  ROLLINS"SAXOPHONE COLOSSUS" Sonny Rollins (ts) Tommy Flanagan( p) Doug Watkins( b) Max Roach (ds) St. Thomas  初めて買ったJazzアルバム  西武池袋線の小さな駅の小さな街、上京して初めて住んだ街 その商店街の喫茶店、夜はスナック風になってお酒も飲める店だった カウンターとテーブル席が４席ぐらいの1階と２階にも同じくらいのテーブル席があった。 そこに少しだけレコードがあり、美空ひばりもあったけど、 ヴィヴァルディの四季のクラシックの他にオスカーピーターソン等のジャズが数枚混じっていた。 マスターとアルバイトの女の子のその日の気分とお客さんのリクエストに合わせて 音楽はいつも流れていた。 ある日常連のOさんが、持って来たレコードをかけて話が盛り上がっていた。 ソニーロリンズという人のレコードらしい。それが初めての出会いだった。 心を揺さぶり、心臓に突き刺さった。 そのタイトルが分からずじまいで、何も知識が無いままに何故かこのアルバムを選び、もう１枚ジミー・スミスのMidnight Specialを買う。この二枚を死ぬ程聴いた。この２枚しかジャズのレコードを持っていなかったからだ。 ここから始まる。それから一人で、或は友人との待ち合わせの場所がジャズ喫茶に。 You Don't Know What Love Is Strode Rode Moritat Blue Seven with Sonny Photo by Katsuji Abe オバマ大統領よりメダル授与 National Medal of Arts おじいちゃンになっちゃったなあ……

34th Annual Kennedy Center Honors   SONNY ROLLINS ONE OF 10 RECIPIENTS OF 2010 NATIONAL MEDAL OF ARTS Saxophonist Sonny Rollins was one of ten honorees who received the 2010 National Medal of Arts for outstanding achievements and support of the arts. The presentation was made on March 2 by President Barack Obama in an East Room ceremony at the White House.
“I’m very happy that jazz, the greatest American music, is being recognized through this honor, and I’m grateful to accept this award on behalf of the gods of our music,” Mr. Rollins said of the award.
