Southern Rockも最近はパッとしない･･･『昨今のオルタナ系ってヤツはど〜もなぁ〜』などと、ワタシと同じようにそれが煮え切らなく感じている方々に、今回は『チョット違うか〜？』と言ってもらえるか？LYNYRD SKYNYRDのメンバーとして１９９０年代初頭から４年ほど在籍していたMike Estesの率いる≪SKINNY MOLLY≫は、Nashville, TN のBandでしてL.SKYNYRDの曲を混ぜながらCircuit活動をした後に、今回の2nd-Album / HAYWIRE RIOTをリリースしました･･･Mikeの骨太Guitarを中心に７０年代をそのまま今に再現したような王道Southern Rockだ･･･しかしだ･･･Vocalも好みと言えるがやはり何かが足りない！！何なんだろうか〜〜？？？

Capricorn Records倒産を経て、１９８２年に２度目の結成をするのが１９８９年のことでした。Dicky Bettsは自身のBand Member３人(Warren・Allen・Johnny)を引き連れてGregg・Butch・Jaimoeと合流したのです。翌１９９０年には"Seven Turns"をリリースし、そこから今現在まで第一線の活動が続いています。この音源はAllmansが再々結成２枚目のAlbum"Shades of Two Worlds"を引っさげてのLondon公演Hammersmth Odeon(Apollo)のLiveで、本国でのLaid Backした大らかなLiveとは一味違う、気合十分なPerformanceが見もの（聴きもの）！･･･一方のAcoustic GigはGreater London Radioに招かれての番組収録です。

_William Christopher Handy – the world-renowned “Father of the Blues” – first fell in love with music while soaking up the harmonious sounds of his Alabama hometown_

　　　　

W.C.Handy Music Festivalは、Alabama州 Muscle ShoalsのFlorenceで生まれ"Father of the Blues"として知られる≪William Christopher Handy.(November 16, 1873 – March 28, 1958)≫にちなんで、１９８２年から開催されているそうです。Cornet奏者でもありますが、今ワタシたちが黒人Bluesに様々な影響を受けた音楽を日常的に聴けるのは、W.C. Handyの曲が一流のMusicianたちに愛されたからかもしれません。例えばポピュラー音楽のスキ方なら♪Saint Louis Blues(1914)♪をご存知でしょう…そうです、Bessie Smith・Louis Armstrong・Benny Goodmanなど、歴代のMisicicanたちが歌い演奏したこの曲も彼の作曲ですね…http://www.wchandymusicfestival.org/musicians.htm…今年のW.C.Music Festival(July 19-28)…Sampleを見てましたら嬉しいLine-Upが勢ぞろい、思わずYouTubeを貼りたくなりました…Travis Wammack ・ Donnie Fritts ・ The Decoys ・ Spooner Oldhamなどの大物から若手まで、メイン会場やら既存の飲み屋で夜な夜な繰り広げられるRoots Musicのオンパレードです。我が街にも「Dr.Jazz」と、Jazz Musicianたちに慕われるお医者様の存在もあってか、少数のJAZZファンが踏み出した愛好会が、今年で７〜８年目を迎える秋のベントOKAZAKI-Jazz Streetってのが開催されます。USA-南部にはこんな風景があふれ、音楽を肌で感じられるとは羨ましいですね。

１９７５年、Georgia州のCapricorn RecordsからデビューしたBandです…同レーベルにはその年"Win, Lose or Draw"をリリースしたAllman Brothers Bandもいましたが、USA.Rockシーンの勢いは南部から西海岸に移り、その年のHit.TuneにはEaglesの"One Of These Nights""Best Of My Love"やDoobie Brothersの"Black Water"などが上がり、Southern Rock (SWAMP)ファンのワタシもいささか西海岸Soundに浮気気味でした。そんな中に現れたのがこの≪Blue Jug≫！…実際の音を聴けたのはしばらく後でしたが、間違いなくThe Bandからの影響がみられるその内容は、聴かれますとLevon Helm・Rick Dankoの声かと一瞬惑わされるかもしれませんよ。エリア・コード615で知られるBuddy Spicher (fiddle)を迎えるなど、Blues色にはやや欠けるもののその音作りとMelody Lineのセンスは、ジャケット写真からもうかがえるようにRootsな深みを感じます…ですが１９７８年に２作目をリリースしてあっさり解散と言うこともありこのBandかなりRareです…1stはCD化がされましたが、これまたデキのイイ2nd-AlbumのCD化が待たれるところ〜
