クリスマスシーズンのマンハッタン★★★

みなさん、こんにちは！ご無沙汰しております！（＾＾）
Hi, everybody! It's been a long time!

素敵なクリスマスを過ごされましたか？
Did you have a nice Christmas?

私たちはいつものように、主人の妹さん夫妻や甥と一緒にたくさんのご馳走をいただきました。
We had very good dishes with Rod's sister, her husband and her son as usual.

さて、今日はクリスマスシーズンのマンハッタンの写真をお見せします。
So, I would like to show you some photos of Christmas season in Manhattan.

アメリカではクリスマスが終わってもイルミネーションはそのまま続き、1月6日頃まで飾られています。
In the US, Christmas decorations are continue to be lit even after Christmas until around January 6th next
year.

まず、グランドセントラル駅の構内。
First, Inside of Grand Central Terminal.

有名な五番街。
Famous Fifth Avenue.

ロックフェラーセンターのクリスマスツリーとその周辺。
Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center and around the tree.

Illuminated reindeers.

もう今年もあとわずかとなりました。今年は日本に帰国できて本当に良い年でした。
New year is just around the corner. This year was a very good year to me because I was able to go back to Japan.

来年が皆さんにとって素晴らしい年になりますように！（＊＾＾＊）

ご無沙汰しております！近況報告★★★

みなさん、こんにちは！ご無沙汰しております！（＾＾；）
Hi, everybody! It's been a long time!

もうあっという間に9月になってしまいました。
It is already September before you know it.

今年は、6月に6年ぶりに日本に帰国し、私がニューヨークに戻る時に両親も初めてＮＹを訪問
するという、とっても嬉しくてエキサイティングなことがありました！（＾＾）
This year, I went back to Japan in June after six years and came back to New York with
my parents for the first time so there have been delightful and exciting things happened!

帰国時には、高校時代からの4人の親友との神戸・大阪へ旅行、昔務めていた会社の同僚や後輩たちとの
17年ぶりの再会、そして、他の友達との懐かしい再会などなど本当に楽しいことの連続でした！
During the stay in Japan, I went on a trip to Kobe and Osaka with my four bestfriends since
high school, had a reunion with my ex-cowokers and juniors for the first time in 17 years,
and had some other reunions with other friends so it was very enjoyable!

両親のＮＹ滞在中は、様々な観光スポットに出かけ、美味しい物をたくさん食べました。
During the stay of my parents in New York, we went to a lot of tourist spots and
experienced variety of foods.

エンパイヤステートビルからの景色。あえてモノクロにしてみました。
Here is a view from Empire State Building. I changed it to in black and white by design.

新しいワールドトレードセンター。
New World Trade Center.

ヤンキースタジアムでイチローのプレーも見ましたよ！
We watched some Ichiro's play at Yankee Stadium!

勿論、ロッドもBBQグリルでたくさんのお肉や野菜の料理を作ってくれました。（＾＾）
Of course, Rod cooked a lot of meat and vegitables with his BBQ grill for them.

ほとんど英語が喋れない両親だけど、とても楽しくて、思い出深い滞在だったようです。
Although my parents' English speaking skill is limited, they really enjoyed it and made a lot of memories.

なによりも、両親がロッドのお母さんに会うことができたのが私にとっては嬉しかったです。
Above all, I am so glad that my parents were able to meet Rod's mother.

あと、悲しいお知らせが一つあります。
And there is one sad news.

猫のイジーの姉妹のブーブーが今年の3月に亡くなりました。
Our cat, Boo Boo who was Izzy's sister passed away last March.

白血病だったようです。
She had a feline leukemia.

残されたイジーのことが少し心配でしたが、変わらずに元気に2ワンと過ごしています。
We were little concerned about Izzy but she is fine with the two dogs.

ということで、今年は既にいろいろなことがありました。
So, many things happened this year already.

義母は相変わらず寝たきりの状態ですが、それでも毎日頑張っています。
My mother-in-law is still confined to bed, but she is hanging in there.

ブログの更新は頻繁にできませんが、とりあえずご報告を兼ねて更新しました。
I cannot update my blog so often but I just want to say how things are going.

今年のクリスマス★★★

みなさん、こんにちは！ご無沙汰しております！（＾＾；）
Hi, everybody! It's been a long time!

皆さんはどのようにクリスマスを過ごされましたか？
How did you guys spend Christmas?

私たちもいつものように美味しいジョーのお料理を頂きました。（＊＾＾＊）
We had Joe's delicious dinner as usual.
 
今回は義母が寝たきりのために、私たちの家でのディナーとなったため、私も少しお料理を作りました。
Since my mother-in-law has been bedfast, we had the dinner at our house, so I cooked some dishes as well.

なので、今回は私が作ったお料理を紹介します。お料理と言えないかもしれないけど。。。（＾＾；）
Thus, I will show you the dishes I cooked this time. Well, some dishes might be too simple...

まずは、ロッドの妹、リサと二人の息子が大好きなちらし寿司。中身はすし太郎ですが。（＾＾；）
At first, Chirashizushi that Rod's sister, Lisa and her two sons love.
The ingredients are just Sushi Taro though.


アメリカ人だけど、お寿司が大好きな甥っ子たちはイクラも大好きです。（＾＾）
Even though the nephews are Americans, they love sushi and salmon roe as well.
 
エビは、冷凍の調理済みのエビを胡麻油、お酒、塩・胡椒で味付けしたものです。
As for shrimps, I seasoned frozen cooked shrimps with sesame oil, cooking sake, salt and pepper.     

ほとんどのお料理はジョーが作ってくれたので、私はデザートを担当しました。
Most of the dishes were made by Joe, so I took in charge of dessert.
 
ピーカンとチョコレートチップのクッキー。
Here are pecan and chocolate chip cookies.


今回初めてクッキーに挑戦しましたが、みんなに評判が良かったので嬉しいです。（＊＾＾＊）
I baked cookies for the first time, but I am glad that everybody liked it.

そして、イチゴとパイナップル。これは切っただけですが。（＾＾；）
Then, strawberries and pineapples. Well, I just cut them.







あまり大したものは作ってないけど、少しは貢献できたかな？！（＾＾）
I did not really make something fancy but I hope I contributed somehow.

 








今年はロッドのお母さんの脳卒中やハリケーンの被害など、本当にいろいろなことがありました。
We experienced various things such as Rod's mother's stroke and the damage of the hurricane this year.

あまりに時が経つのが早すぎて、もう少しでこの年が終わろうとしていることが信じられません。
Time goes by so quickly that I cannot believe this year will be over soon.

更新がおろそかになりがちの私ですが、いつも訪問していただいてありがとうございます。
I tend to neglect updating my blog, but thank you for visiting my blog as always.

日本の年末はお忙しいと思いますが、どうぞお体ご自愛ください。
I bet everyone in Japan is so busy at this time of the year, but please take good care of yourself.

ハリケーン、サンデーの影響■■■

みなさん、こんにちは！（＊＾＾＊）
Hi, everybody!

大変ご無沙汰しております！お元気ですか？
It's been a very long time! How are you doing?

おそらく、皆さんもご存じの通り、ニューヨークはハリケーン、サンデーで大変なことになっております。
Probably, as you may know, we are having a huge difficulty in NY because of the hurricane, Sandy. 

広範囲な住宅の崩壊や浸水の被害に加え、亡くなられた方もいらっしゃいます。
Not only the extensive range of the damage of housing destruction and flood but also some people passed  away.

通常、ＮＹにはあまりハリケーンが上陸することはないのですが、今回は莫大な被害をもたらしました。
Usually, hurricanes rarely make landfall in New York but this time, it brought enormous damage.
 
私たちの家やお店は無事でしたが、停電してしまいました。
Our house and the shop were OK but we had power failure.

お店の停電は先週の金曜日に復旧しましたが、家はまだ停電中です。（−−；）
We had the power back at the shop last Friday but we don't have the power at the house yet.

この大木は家の真横にあるので、とても不安でしたが、反対側に倒れてくれて本当に良かったです。
The huge tree is right next to the house so we were anxious about it. I am glad that it fell down to the other side.

他の木も倒れて、物置小屋を破壊してしまいました。
Other trees were knocked down destroying the shed.

幸い、ロッドが持っていたキャンプ用のバーベキューセットやプロパンガスのコンロを使って調理をし、ろうそくやオイルランプ、懐中電灯など様々な物を利用しました。
Fortunately, Rod has a BBQ grill and a propane stove for camping to cook. We also use candles, oil lamps  　and flashlights for lights.














２つの発電機もお店と家で使用し、冷蔵庫や明かり、充電などに利用しました。
Also, we use two generators at home and the shop for fridges, lights and charging. 

それでも、家の暖房が使えないためにとても寒く、お湯も使えません。（−−；）
Even so, we cannot use the heating system and hot water at home so it is very cold.

家には義母が寝たきりでしたが、プロパンガスのヒーターだけでは寒すぎるため、結局、老人ホームで一時的に滞在させてもらうことにして、介護の方も家に帰りました。
We had Rod's mother staying bed but since one propane heater was not warm enough for her, we transferred her to a nursing home temporarily and made the caretaker return home.

それに加えて、２日前に雪が降りました。。。（−−；）
In addition, we had snow two days ago...



























いつも前向きな私も、これにはちょっとこたえました。。。
I am usually positive but it was hard for me...

でも、私たちよりももっと大変な人たちはたくさんいます。私たちはお店の電気が使えるし。
However, there are many people suffering more than we do. We can even use the power at the shop.

なので、そうゆう人達のために、洋服を地元のボランティア団体に寄付しました。
So I donated some clothes to a local volunteer organization for those people who are suffering.

今日は少し暖かくなり、雪もほとんど解けたため、随分気持ちが楽になりました。（＾＾）
Today, it warmed up little and the snow melted mostly so I feel much better.

恐らく、あと数日で家の電気も復旧すると思うので、もう少しの辛抱です。
Probably, we are going to get the power back soon (hopefully!) so just a little more patience.

今年は、私たちにとって本当にいろいろなことがある年です。
Various things happened to us this year.
 
人生様々なことがあるけれど、普段本当に恵まれた生活をしていると切実に感じました。
We have various things in life but I felt that we are truly blessed to live life everyday.

とりあえず、少しでも私たちのことをご心配いただいた皆様、私たちは元気に毎日を過ごしております。
In the mean time, I just want to say that we are OK to those who are concerned about us.

最後に、どんどん距離が縮まっている２ワンと２にゃんの写真を載せますね。
At the end, I will show you the two doggies and the two cats who are getting much closer.
 
イジーはマイロのお尻にタッチしてるみたいです！（＊＾＾＊）
It looks like Izzy is touching Milo's butt!

みなさんにご心配をお掛けしましたが、10日の夜に家の停電が無事復旧しました。
Thank you for your concern and prayers for us. The power of our house was restored successfully in the
evening of the 10th.

近況報告■■■

みなさん、こんにちは！
Hi, everybody!

ご無沙汰しております！（＾＾；）
It's been a long time!

最近はバタバタとしていて、なかなか更新できなくてごめんなさい。（＞＜）
We've been hectic lately so I am sorry that I could not updated for a long time.

実は、1か月前にロッドのお母さんが脳卒中で倒れてしまいました。
As a matter of fact, Rod's mother had a stroke a month ago.

私たちがお母さんの家に引っ越ししてから約3週間経った頃でした。
It had been about three weeks since we moved into her house.

ロッドが朝出かける前にベッドの横に倒れているお母さんを発見しました。
Rod found her lying down on the side of her bed before he was off to work in the morning.

後で分かったことですが、脳卒中は発症後の3時間が非常に重要だそうで、
状況からみて義母は2時間程経過していたようです。
I later discovered that the first three hours of a stroke is critically important,
and it had been two hours for her case according to her situation.

本当に引っ越しして良かった。。。
I am so glad we moved...

救急病院からリハビリテーション病院に移り、今はリハビリのできる介護施設に入居しています。
She stayed at an emergency hospital and moved to a rehabilitation hospital later, then now she is at a rehabilitation & health care center.

脳卒中の特徴で片半身に麻痺があるため、左手・左脚が動かせない状態です。
Paralyzing one side of the body is accentuated in strokes, she cannot move neither left hand nor left leg.

今までとてもアクティブで明るい義母だったので、ベッドで辛そうにしている姿を見るのは辛いです。
Since she was so active and lively before, it is hard to see her in bed in pain.

それでも、家に帰るために毎日一生懸命リハビリを続けています。
However, she is working hard to do the rehabilitation to go home everyday.

89歳なので、どこまで回復できるか分かりませんが、是非家に帰ってきてもらいたいと思っています。
We don't really know how much she can recover as she is 89 years old, but I want her to come home.

このことをブログに書こうかどうか迷いましたが、みなさんに近況をお知らせすると共に、私自身の記録として
書くことに決めました。
I hesitated to write about this on my blg, but I would like you guys to know about my situation
and also I want to post it as my record.

なので、ブログの更新はさらに不定期になってしまうと思いますが、どうぞこれからもよろしくお願いします。
Thus, updating my blog is much less but please keep in touch.
