スウェーデン出身のHip-Hopグループ。日本でもアンダーグラウンド系としてちょっとした人気。Shibuyaなんて曲をつくるぐらい親日の彼らだが、彼らのラップのメッセージは結構政治的で過激だ。

Fruits Of Babylonという曲では、消費社会、資本主義社会を皮肉っている。We don't need your politicians to know which way to go. You Mislead us. (政治家になんて俺らの進む道を任しちゃいられねぇ！欺かれるだけだ！)
こういう社会的メッセージが今の日本の音楽界にも必要だよな〜。

ＮＹの地下鉄にテロの危険性が高まったということで、今日の午後から警備が強化された。しかし、たいていのＮＹ市民はあまり気にした様子でもなかった。９１１から４年経った今、ＮＹ市民は毎回のように発せられるテロ警戒に慣れっこになっているようだ。

９１１から４年間、ＮＹ市民は「見えない敵」に警戒してきた。
「見えない敵」を見付けるために、持ち物検査を行なう。
検査を行なう対象となるのは地下鉄を利用するすべての人。
「見えない敵」は、ＮＹ市民に「疑う心」を植え付けた。
誰も信じられない状況、そして誰もがテロリストになりうる状況。
自分も疑われる。「見えない敵」は自分自身にも宿るのである。

ほんとうに敵が存在するのかも定かでないのに、お互いを疑い続ける。
「見えない敵」を突き止めるには、まず自分自身を疑う必要がある。
信じることを忘れてしまった自分の心が「敵」を作っているのかもしれないから。

今日、私の乗っていた車両にギターを持った黒人男性が入ってきて、ボブ・マーリィのＯＮＥ ＬＯＶＥを歌った。彼の身なりはとてもキレイとは言えないが、彼の歌声はすべての乗客の心よりピュアだったと思う。

地下鉄でＯＮＥ ＬＯＶＥを歌って小銭稼ぎをする男。所得は間違いなく低いだろう。高等教育も受けていないかもしれない。しかし、彼は歌声にのせて、経済的に安定した人間には見えていないものを訴えていた。今の社会＆人間に必要なもの、１つの愛を。

この人、レベル高いわー。
ジャズの名門インパル・レーベルで活躍したアルト・サックス奏者MARION BROWNを父に持つジンジ。ヒップホップ、アフロ・ビート、ディープ・ハウス、ダブ、ドラムンベース、クラブ・ジャズ、と「良いとこ取り」しているのだが、ゴチャゴチャすることなく、心地よくすべての音が交わり相互作用している。

イリノイ発、野外ミュージック・フェスト！

６月に入り暑さが厳しくなってくると思いきや、意外にも肌寒い日が続く。
日本（関東）よりも夏の到来が早いと思っていたが、あまり変わらないようだ。
今日の最高気温も２１℃、東京は２３℃。

と、別に天気の話をしたかったわけではない。ただ夏が早くきてほしいだけ。なにせ夏は野外ミュージック・フェストの季節だから！日本でも数ある屋外ミュージック・フェストだが、ここアメリカにもOzzfestやら、Bonnarooやら、昔はWoodstockなんてのもあり、小さいものからメジャーなものまで万とある。

そして、ここイリノイにもローカルなミュージック・フェストがいくつかある。その中のひとつが、来週末（6/17,18,19）に開催されるMidwest Freak Fest。ジャンル的にはクラブ・サウンドの目白押しといったかんじか。Trance, Break Beats, Drum n Bass, House, などなどあまり青空が似合わないけれど、開放感に浸れること間違いなし。初日のオープンも午後４時と遅めだし、日が落ちてからの方がおもしろそう。

出演者はインディー・クラブDJ＆グループが全米から集まってくる。アメリカのアンダーグラウンド・サウンドからは程遠かったこの片田舎が、この週末だけはMTVの呪縛から逃れることが出来る。しかも、チケットがめちゃ安い。当日に購入しても＄４０！フジロックもこれぐらいの値段だったらなぁ。

Jazz Jamaicaというバンド名でスタートし、"Skaravan"や"Double Barrel"などをリリース。

そして、彼らの名前を決定的にしたのが"The Jamaican Beat - Blue Note Blue Beat vol.1 ＆ vol.2"。

ここで彼らはジャズの名曲をレゲエからメント、カリプソといったジャマイカ風に料理している。

そして、バンド名をJazz Jamaica Allstarsとしてこの"Massive"というアルバムをリリースしている。

真夏の真っ昼間に太陽の下で聞きたい１枚です。
