単語３つ調べ、訳す。きのうは難しくてだいたい大まかに読んだだけだったけど、今日は細かい不明なところを調べ直してかなりはっきり理解できた。まだ完全にわかっていないけど、次回やったときさらにはっきりわかりそう。alle~n kai alle~n という言い方についてきのう辞書を見なかったために誤訳してた。また、ho horizo~n という単語が地平線という意味だと思っていたけど実は大地の、または空、天球の、大地の上に出て見えている半球と大地の下に隠れて見えない半球とを horizo~ する (分ける) 円、という意味だとわかった。(LSJ の horizo~ のとこを詳しく調べるとわかる。) だから ho horizo~n は地平線でなく地平円なのだ。このことに気づいたために読解が進んだ。 June 1 Thursday

前回 orthe~s の意味が辞書を見てもなかなかわからなくててきとうに仮の訳をした。今日は orthos でなく sphaira を調べ直してみたら he~ orthe~ sphaira というのがちゃんと載っていた。これによってここの箇所の不明な点が解明し、正しい訳に直した。

単語１つ調べる。読解が大幅に進んだ。前回までわからなくて考えこんでやめるというのをずーっと繰り返してたのだけど。今日は今までの訳の不確かで間違ってもいたところをみんな訂正できるくらい、はっきりとここらへんの文章 (大地の位置についての仮説とそれについての吟味) の形が見えた。辞書に載っている意味をただ当てはめても訳のわからない文章になるだけ、という難しい箇所で、解読するのに時間がかかった。例えば he~ orthe~ sphaira は辞書には赤道から見た天球とあるけど、それを別な方向から読み直さないとここの箇所には当てはまらなかった。orthos (まっすぐな) というのは egklisis (傾き) の反対だと気づいたとき、ここらへん全体のよくわからないこんぐらがりが解けた。 June 8 Thursday

単語２つ調べる。ここの文の訳をいちおう最後までやった。まだ細かいところが変だけど。特に horizo~n の訳がなんか間違っているような気がしてならない。あと、この文の手直しを終わったら、１つ前の「天球の中における大地の位置についての第一の仮定についての吟味」のところを直さないといけない。大地は天球の中心にある、という考え (これはプトレマイオスの主張したい説) についての吟味だと勘違いして訳してたから。 ６月１４日 水曜日
