431b20 Νῦν δέ, περὶ ψυχῆς τὰ λεχθέντα συγκεφαλαιώσαντες, εἴπωμεν πάλιν ὅτι ἡ ψυχὴ τὰ ὄντα πώς ἐστι πάντα·
さて、霊魂について今まで言われたことをまとめて、もう一度、「霊魂は、或る意味において万物である」と言おうではないか。
ἢ γὰρ αἰσθητὰ τὰ ὄντα ἢ νοητά, ἔστι δ' ἡ ἐπιστήμη μὲν τὰ ἐπιστητά πως, ἡ δ' αἴσθησις τὰ αἰσθητά·

しかし知性の認識のしかたは、単純な、質料から分離した対象*1を認識する場合と、個物*2を認識する場合とで異なっている。
(*1)質料がない、形相のみの単純なもの。次に出てくる「抽象的なもの ta en aphairesei legomena」と同じ。「肉なしで認識される曲線」を指す。
(*2)これは質料と形相の結合体。次に出てくる「反りっ鼻 to simon」を指す。

一方、人が知性の現実態において*1反りっ鼻を認識するとき、抽象的な「反り」として認識するが、そのときは肉なし・・・・・・肉の中に「反り」があるわけ・・・・・で認識する。
知性が抽象的なものを認識するのはこのようにしてである。
(*1) energeia^i 「知性の現実態において」「知性の活動において」とは、たぶん知性が本領を発揮しているとき、つまり抽象的な思考をしているときのこと。

ところで、知性は知的対象*1をイメージとして*2とらえる。そしてイメージの形で、知性にとって求めるべき対象と避けるべき対象とが区別される。
