The ultimate principle of India¡Çs the doctrinal teaching of the four great materialelements was referred to earth, water, fire, and air. It is understood as thespecies of four great material elements, which means that it is the basis ofthe creation of all material in Buddhism¡Çs Abhidharmakosa Shastra. Also in the West, Empedoclespersisted that earth, water, fire, and air are the four great elements because they are the basicelements of all material things in the universe.
Therefore earth, water, fire, and air are the ultimatereality of the universe, claimed both by the east and the west under the sameopinion.
Without the presence of earth, water, fire, and air,it is not possible to sustain life on earth. All living creatures can exist, due to the existence of the four great elements. Also because of the four greatelements, culture can be formed after humanity flourishes.
The earth, water, fire, and air have both Yang whichinvolves the meaning ¡ÆHot¡Ç and Yin which involves the meaning ¡ÆCold¡Ç. It¡Çs like a Magnet, it consists of N and S pole.
Such as,
The earth is.: There are two elements for earth, which are cold andhot. Therefore Yin and Yang exist on earth.
The water is.: There are two elements for water, which are cold andhot. Therefore Yin and Yang exist on water.
The air is.: There are two elements for wind, which are cold andhot. Therefore Yin and Yang exist on air.
The fire is.: There is the only one element for fire, which is hot. There¡Çs no such thing as ¡Æcold fire¡Ç.
Therefore fire is the standard of earth, water, fire, and air. The criteria unchangeable, and unchangeable one should be always thebasic root. The only way to govern all matters when things are notchanged. Hence, ¡ÈEverything in theuniverse is changeable, but things that are always changeable never change.¡É in the I Ching(¼þ°×).
In conclusion, the fire is the criteria of allchangeable things in the universe and the root is what makes things changeable.
The presence of fire refers to the center of the solarsystem. All the planets that exist in the solar system revolve around the sunwith pinpoint accuracy. The solar system would not have existed without properorder of the planets. It would came crashing down without the sun which is theheart of the solar system.
That is why the sun is the center of the solar system. The sun is the absolute being, that has only energy of Yang. Here, the meaningof Yang is not a relative term that compares between Yin and Yang, but the Yanghere only means ¡Æan absolute sense¡Ç.
It is same reference by Lao-tzu, who was an ancientChinese philosopher, which is ¡ÈThe meaning of Wu(nothing, ̵) is not a relative term of Yu(existence, Í), but it is absolute meaning of Yu(existence, Í)¡É.
This absolute being of ¡Æthe fire¡Ç is also a criterionof oriental medicine
In oriental medicine, the five viscera was attached by oriental five vitalelements: Wood (ÌÚ mù), Fire (²Ð huǒ),Earth (ÅÚ tǔ), Metal (¶â jīn), and Water (¿å shuǐ).
Wood is Liver.
Fire is Heart.
Soil is Spleen.
Iron is Lungs.
Water is Kidneys.
The heart is likened to the monarch in orientalmedicine. It means that the heart being is a vital organ like a king of thehuman body. The heart is in charge of circulation inside the visible structureof the blood vessels (·ìÌ®), mentalconsciousness and thought activities, and the function of life activities in thehuman body (¿ÀÌÀ).
In other words, the heart deals with ¡ÆBlood and Mind¡Çwhich is the most important and most in need for human and to form all cellsand organs inside the body. Blood does not circulate when the heart stop, even ifother organs are healthy. Eventually human being dies because of the end of thelife energy, which is the function of life activities in the human body (¿ÀÌÀ). Thus, when the heart stops, all human beings aremortal naturally.
In medical science, the heart is the most unique organthan others and the criterion.
The fire is criteria for all material, and the originthat makes material appear. However the fire is not the form that occursitself, but it is the supreme that makes everything appear. The fire that has a potential consciousness is hiddenor stored inside of all material. That is why the fire inherent in all material issparked when one rubs itself against the other.
For instance, a wood rubs against the other, a firesparks, a stone strikes against the other, a fire sparks, rubbing togetherone¡Çs hands, a fire sparks, and an iron strikes against the other, a firesparks. Fire exists inside all materials and become life's energy that releasesfrom and to all shapes and forms.
As the fire is potentially stored inside of allmaterials, it indicates that a fire also exists inside of the human body aswell.
¡ÆTheMind¡Ç is this potential fire.
For instance, if what we see is our mind, our eyes arethe objects. If what we hear is our mind, our ears are the objects. The innatemind which moves the human body is inherent inside of our body and is whatdrives us to continue our life.
An ancient sage said this,
¡ÈFreeall ignorance and bondage through the flames of wisdom.¡É
When our inner mind manifests itself and starts togrow, a light will awaken the ignorance and the bondage of the world.
In order to manifest the light from inside of our mind,we can use meditation as a tool. My body is a tree and meditation createsanother one. From the friction between two trees, the hidden fire from theseams manifests itself rises to the surface. Likewise meditation brings youwisdom and true self which are hidden inside of the body.
We could set a fire from the tool of meditation tobring out the true fire that is inherent inside our body. For someone who canmeditate there¡Çs nothing cannot be done with concentration of the mind. After Istarted to do meditation, I became to like wearing sun colored clothes, similarto as if I was the center of my own universe. I said the criteria in theuniverse. Also in order to concentrate on myself, I learned to practice withoutany disturbance. |
