韓国での素晴らしいフィナーレ！ Ulsan Tree Planting End Of Events In Korea

今日は、ＫＦＥＭソウルオフィスの友人たちと、ウルサン市へ。そこで、１００人の人たちと一緒に歩き、１００本の木を植えた。

まず、イベントは１００人の人たちとのウォークからスタート。私たちは、鯨博物館からスタートし（この鯨博物館は、この町が捕鯨で栄えた頃のことを展示している博物館で、グリーンピースやＫＦＥＭの好む場所ではないのだが・・・）、巨大な石油精製工場の真ん中にたどり着き、そこで、１００人の人たちと１００本の木を植えた。木を植えた場所は、長くい過ぎると死に至りそうなくらい空気が汚染されていた。実は、今回のウォークの目的は、地元の人たちと一緒に大気汚染のひどい地域を歩いて、大気汚染ストップを呼びかけようというものだったのだ。

ＫＦＥＭのおかげでイベントは大成功し、私たちの韓国の旅の終わりを飾るのにふさわしいイベントになった。

Our friends from the Seoul office of KFEM arrived yesterday into Pusan so we could take a
short trip to the nearby city of Ulsan to participate in a tree planting. At the event this
morning were 100 and more local citizens, many members of the media and locla politicians.

The walk began at the Whaling Museum, a place that glorify's the whaling industry years (not
to the liking of Greenpeace or KFEM) and ended in the middle of a gigantic refinery and
industrial complex, where 100 trees were planted by 100 happy people while breathing in the
local air which would make you very dead if you stayed around here too long. This is why the
walk was arranged - to highlight the plight of the local citizens and their efforts to either get the whole noxious mess cleared up or to be removed, rehoused, resettled in a place more
fit for life.

The dya was beautiful, my speech was of the changes of spring and the changes that begin with just one step, just like this tree planting. I pointed out that stepps is what I know ablout, as even the greatest journey, like a 44,000 kilometer walk begins with a single step. That
step is the hardest, but once made, every step after gets easier. The local KFEM director
agrred and fisnished off the addresses before the walk with a vow that this event would be
the first step in the cleaning up of the region.

I can honestly say that I am very upset to see such a callous disregard gfor human life - and I wonder where do the owners of these companies live - do they live downwind, or do they live in mega mansions surrounded with forests so vast that you or I would never be able to get
near them or smell their freshest of air - my guess is that they live no where near where
we planted the trees today.

Well done KFEM for organising such a wonderful send off event. We have been very impressed by your actions and will continue to support your good work in whatever way we can.

韓国でのメディア報道

韓国では、韓国環境運動連合（KFEM）の協力で、少なくとも５０回以上、テレビのニュースで報道され、新聞にも、数え切れないほどの記事が掲載されました。

そのおかげで、歩いている途中、「あ、環境運動家の人だね。テレビで見たよ！頑張って！」とたくさんの方に声をかけていただきました。

韓国の皆さん！本当にありがとうございました！！

釜山から30キロほど北西の山の上のモーテルまで、釜山日報の記者さんがインタビューに来てくれました。この記事の中で、川沿いの苺畑を歩いたときに甘い匂いに囲まれて、思わず苺を買って食べたという話をしたら、後日、記者さんが苺をたくさん持って、KFEM釜山のオフィスまで遊びに来てくれました。

この写真は、1月15日に万里の長城を出発した時のもの。このとき、偶然に韓国から観光に来ていた人たちに会い、「これから、中国を歩いて、韓国を縦断するんですよ」と話すと、「素晴らしい！頑張って！！」「韓国で会いましょう！」と応援してもらったのでした。

もうすぐ日本！福岡で植樹、富士宮で講演会をします

さて、今日、無事に釜山に到着し、韓国の旅もあと３日を残すのみとなりました。
私たちは、4月8日の夜行フェリーで釜山を発ち、4月9日の早朝、博多港に到着します。

博多では、ノースフェイスさんが植樹と講演会を企画してくださっています。
そして、4月10日に富士宮に移動し、ポールが２年前に富士山から長崎まで歩いたときにお世話になった山村礼子さんのお宅にお世話になり、4月11日に富士宮で講演会をします。

韓国の徒歩、終了！ 2 The Walk Through Korea Ends In Pusan

釜山到着後、釜山市の皆さん、約50人と280本の木を植えた。釜山市の環境課長さんやメディアも大勢参加してくれ、楽しいイベントになった。

毎日がアースデイというメッセージを広めるためにサポートしてくれたKFEMとメディアの皆さんに改めて感謝したい。(Paul)

The pain of these last few days walk soon went with the welcome by KFEM at the Pusan City
Hall, and by 2pm we were standing on a mountain at the heart of the city with about fifty
other people, about to plant 280 trees for the National Tree Planting Day. The Pusan Ministers of the eEvironment and Social Development particpated in the official welcome of our walk,
and on hand to record one of our final actions in this veryu lovely land, were many memebrs
of the media. Thanks KFEM and the national media for helping spread our Earth Day is Every
Day Message throughout Korea.

私は歩き、話し、木を植える。今回のウォークの目的は、アースデイを広めるためと、中国、韓国、日本の環境団体をつなぐことだった。

そして、結果は大成功。

I walk, I talk, I plant trees. On this trip the foucs has been to spread the Earth day
message and to unites the environmental groups of China, Korea and Japan. To a great extent
this walk has been a success. Thanks especially to Earthday Tokyo for inviting me to make
this journey, to the Global Village Of Beijing for supporting us in China and most recently
KFEM who have arranged events acroos the entire land of South Korea.
