A Strange House Indeed

英語の問題です。
今回は短いですよ。

Paolo lives in a square house that has one window on each of its sides.
All four of the windows face north.
How is this possible?

簡単かな？

さて、前回の答えは
一人目に注目しましょう。
もしE族の場合は正直なので自分のことをE族と言います。
もしL族だったとしても、自分のことE族だと偽りを言います。
つまり一人目の答えは必ず『E』となりますね。
ということは二人目は真実を言っていることになります。
そこで二人目は正直者のE族です。
三人目の言っていることは偽りですので、L族ということになります。

The Truth About Tatoos

またまたやってきました英語の問題ですよ♪

ちなみに前回の『Taking Aim』の答えは『０』でした。
鳥は飛び立ってしまって木には残っていなかったんです。

さて今回の問題です。
ちょっと長いですよ。

You are visiting an island populatede by two tribes: the Eagles and the Lions. The Eagles all have eagles tattooed on the soles of their feet, while the Lions all have lions tattooed on the soles of their feet. The Eagles are known for their honesty:  no Eagle has ever told a lie.
The Lions are known for theri dishonesty:  no Lion has ever told the truth.

You are at a meeting with three natives of the island and are trying to figure out to
which tribe they belong. Unfortunately, both tribes consider it very rude to show the 
soles of their feet to foreigners.  So you ask the first islander what is tattooed on 
the soles of his feet.This islander understands English, but doesn't speak it, so he
responds in his native tongue, You turn to the second islander and ask her what the 
first islander said. She tells you,"He said he has eagles tattooed on his feet." 
Not sure if you should trust her, you ask the third islander what the second islander
has on her feet, The third islander answers, "She has lions tattooed on her feet."

What does the third islander have on his feet?

Taking Aim・・・久しぶり英語の問題です

新学期が始まって、Tomakoがまたまたエキストラ・クレジットの問題を持ち帰ってきました。

そこで問題です！

There are ninety-seven birds sitting in a tree.
Shotgun Sharon swaggers up to the tree and fires three whole rounds of ammunition 
at the birds.
She kills twice as many in the first round as in the second round, 
and twice as many in the second round as in the third round.
In the third round she kills three birds.

How many birds are left in the tree after Sharon fires off the third round?

さあ、わからない単語は辞書で引いて答えを導き出してください。

A Family Fishing Expedition

この問題も、私は分かりませんでした。
答えを聞いて、「そっか！」と納得。
では

Two fatheres and their sons go fishing.
Each person on　the fishing trip catches a fish.
In total they catch three fish.
How is this possible?

前回の問題の答えです♡

難しいですよね・・・！
わかりましたか？
答えは、日本語で書きます。

２本のヒモがあるわけです。
仮にＡ，Ｂとします。

Ａは両側に、Ｂは片側だけにライターで火をつけます。

すると・・・

１本のヒモが燃えるのに１時間かかるわけなので、
ちょうど３０分後に両側から燃やしたＡのヒモが燃え尽きます。

Ｂのヒモはまだ半分残っていますね。

そこで今度はＢのヒモの火のついていない方にも新たにライターで火をつけます。
そうするとＢのヒモも両方から燃えていき、
１５分後に燃え尽きるわけです。

最初に火をつけてから４５分後になりますね。

チャンチャン！！
