登高 -- 杜甫

杜甫の最高傑作ともされる「登高」を私のような素人が英訳するのはおこがましいし、すでにいろいろ分析されて研究し尽くされ、英訳も数多く出ているが、それには目を通さずに遊びに徹した。もちろん満足しているわけではなく、修正は重ねるつもりである。

登高

風急天高猿嘯哀
渚清沙白鳥飛廻
無辺落木蕭蕭下
不尽長江滾滾来
万里悲秋常作客
百年多病独登台
艱難苦恨繁霜鬢
潦倒新停濁酒杯

風急に天高くして　猿嘯哀し
渚清く沙白くして　鳥飛廻る
無辺の落木　蕭蕭として下り
不尽の長江　滾滾として来る
万里悲秋　常に客となり
百年多病　独り台に登る
艱難苦だ恨む　繁霜の鬢

On the Terrace

Through the ascending storm, a solitary monkey shrieks aloud,
Over the clean sandy coast, an aloof bird glides around a cloud.
Over the boundless country, withered leaves fall rustling below.
With its inexhaustible water, Great River gushes in a steady flow.
On a journey of thousands miles, I have always been embarrassed.
Suffering a lingering illness, I alone climb the legendary terrace.
After painful hardship, my beard has turned as white as frosty ice.
Feeble with age, I've quitted a cup of wine on my doctor’s advice.
