春の祈り -- フロスト

A Prayer in Spring

OH, give us pleasure in the flowers to-day;
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.

Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,
Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;
And make us happy in the happy bees,
The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.

And make us happy in the darting bird
That suddenly above the bees is heard,
The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,
And off a blossom in mid air stands still.

For this is love and nothing else is love,
The which it is reserved for God above
To sanctify to what far ends He will,
But which it only needs that we fulfil.

春の祈り

今日の花の喜びを与えたまえ
はるか先の収穫に
心を配らせず　ただひたすら
われらを年の初めに留めたまえ。

昼は昼に他ならず　夜は霊のごとき
白き果樹園の喜びを与えたまえ
完全なる樹々に群がる
幸なる蜂をわれらに与えたまえ。

蜂の上に突如聞こえる
飛びゆく鳥を与えたまえ
針の先で突かんとする流星を
宙で止め　花からそらしめたまえ。

これぞ愛なり　愛は愛にほかならず
これぞ天の神のものにして
神が望むかぎり捧げるものなるが
われらが成就するにかぎるべし。

才能が鋭く駆け巡っています☆ほとばしる情熱と「神」なる言葉で捉えられる宇宙そのもの。

今回はフロストは敬虔なキリスト教の信者として春の恵みを感謝する祈りを神に捧げる形式を取っていると解釈しました。キリスト教のお祈りは旧約聖書のダビデ王作とされる「詩編」が使われているらしいので、一度聖書を調べてみたいと思いました。キリスト教徒ならだれでも知っている文言があるのかもしれません。
