恋の錬金術 -- ジョン・ダン

「今日の詩」はジョン・ダンの「恋の錬金術」である。この種の詩は形而上詩というのだそうである。「恋の妙薬」はみなペテンとし、返す刀で「女は狂ったミイラ」だと切り捨てている。すでに死よ驕るなかれで彼の詩は紹介した。

ダンは恋愛を始め、いろんな人生体験がありそうである。今後ともダン晩年の講話を形而上詩で読むことにしよう。記事が短くて、どうにもならないが、生年月日等はウィキペディアで分かるジョン･ダンを参照されたい。

Love's Alchemy

Some that have deeper digg'd love's mine than I,
Say, where his centric happiness doth lie;
I have lov'd, and got, and told,
But should I love, get, tell, till I were old,
I should not find that hidden mystery.
Oh, 'tis imposture all!
And as no chemic yet th'elixir got,
But glorifies his pregnant pot
If by the way to him befall
Some odoriferous thing, or medicinal,
So, lovers dream a rich and long delight,
But get a winter-seeming summer's night.

恋の錬金術

私よりも深い恋の鉱脈を掘り当てた人はいよう
その人の幸せがどこにあるにせよ。
私は恋し、獲得し、語ったが
今後、私が愛し、獲得し、語るとしても
その秘密を発見することはない。
それはすべてペテンだ！
恋の薬や妙薬なるものは
ただ錬金術師の意味深な壺を飾るのみ。
時として匂いがしたり
薬効のある物が出てくる。
恋人たちは長続きする快楽を夢見るが
得るのは冬の装をした夏の夜にすぎぬ。

安楽、栄華、名誉、幸運
我らかくも空しき泡沫を購うべきか？
諸君が恥を忍び花婿の役を演じるとして
諸君の恋の結末は私と同じ幸福であろうか？
結ばれるのは肉体ではなく
花嫁の天使の心であると
恋する輩は聞いたとおりに
誓いを立てるが
当日下卑た詩人が吟ずるごとく
女に心を望むな。陽気で機転が利けば上々
女どもはしょせん狂ったミイラだ。
