愛しき君の埋葬 -- テニスン

「今日の詩」もテニスンの「愛しき君の埋葬」である。ロマン派の完成者であるテニスンが当時流行の中世趣味に合わせた詩であろう。すでによく似た詩としては「姫君の騎士の亡骸が戻ってきた」がある。それとも「アーサー王の死」あたりに収録されているエピソードであろうか。

韻文であるが構造がそれほど幾何学的には見えなかった。目立つ同韻としては30行中 [unfed, shed, head, dead, sped, deathbed, dead] の７語である。あとは一対の例外を除いて、綺麗に対が取れている。エミリー・ディキンソンなら合格だが、桂冠詩人としてはどうかと思われる [joy, apathy] である。

The Burial of Love

His eyes in eclipse,
Pale-cold his lips,
The light of his hopes unfed,
Mute his tongue,
His bow unstrung
With the tears he hath shed,

テニスン

絵はイギリス生まれの画家 Charles Farrer の” Gone! Gone! ”という感傷的な絵である。美術評論家ジョン・ラスキンの影響を受けたとされるが、アメリカに帰化したのか判然としない。
