再臨 -- イェーツ

「今日の詩」は今届いたイェーツの “The Second Coming ” 「再臨」である。ウィキペディアを見てしまったが、神秘主義者イェーツが、ロシア革命がおき、西洋の没落が言われる中で書いたものである。心霊術がはやり、混乱するヨーロッパ。善が滅び、悪が栄える時代になり、キリストの「再臨」をイェーツは予言している。訳は不正確かもしれないが、イェーツが興奮して書いた詩である。訳もあまり点検せずに投稿しよう。ただキリストが「再臨」するという予言はいつも外れていることは確かである。

彼独自のオカルト用語が登場する「ジャイロ」は「渦」である。ロシア革命あたりを想像すればよいのか。Spiritus Mundは迷ったが、ヘーゲルのいう世界精神なのかは後で調べる。「野獣」は我々「不信心者」を指す。

The Second Coming

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

再臨

広がるジャイロ、回る、回る
鷹は鷹匠の命令を聞かない。
諸々は崩壊し、中心がない。
無政府主義が世界に広がり
血に汚れた潮が全世界に解き放たれ
純潔の儀式は溺死する。
最善は確信を失い、最悪に

確かに再臨は近付いている。
