旅人 - 父さん -- エミール・ネリガン

昨日のエミール・ネリガンは母親の詩を書いたが、今日の詩は父親の詩である。いずれもフィクションであるが、母親と父親の生態をごく常識的に描写している。母親は息子離れしないものであるし、父親は居酒屋かもしれないが放浪癖がある。今日のエミールの父親は世界中を旅して歩く放浪者である。

カナダはもともと高価な毛皮を目当てに渡ってきたフランス人の国である。Le voyageur はカナダで毛皮を集めるために旅をした人の意味もある。父親は「旅人」だったのであろうが、フランスの毛皮猟師または毛皮商人の気質はケベック人にも受け継がれているのだろう。今日の写真はハリウッド映画に出てくる毛皮野郎である。

Le voyageur - (A mon père)

Las d'avoir visité mondes, continents, villes,
Et vu de tout pays, ciel, palais, monuments,
Le voyageur enfin revient vers les charmilles
Et les vallons rieurs qu'aimaient ses premiers ans.

Alors sur les vieux bancs au sein des soirs tranquilles,
Sous les chênes vieillis, quelques bons paysans,
Graves, fumant la pipe, auprès de leurs familles
Ecoutaient les récits du docte aux cheveux blancs.

Le printemps refleurit. Le rossignol volage
Dans son palais rustique a de nouveau chanté,
Mais les bancs sont déserts car l'homme est en voyage.

On ne le revoit plus dans ses plaines natales.
Fantôme, il disparut dans la nuit, emporté
Par le souffle mortel des brises hivernales.

異国の人々、大陸、都市を訪問
諸国、空、宮殿、建物を見飽きて
旅人は笑う樹と谷が懐かしくなり
戻ってきて一年間は快適だった。

静かな夜には古い長椅子に座り
古い樫の樹の下で善良な農民が
家族引き連れ、パイプをくゆらせ
真剣に白髪の先生の話を聞いた。

春爛漫、気紛れナイチンゲール
のどかな屋敷で新曲を歌ったが
男は長椅子を後にして旅に出た。

故郷の平原では二度と見かけず
死ぬほど冷たい風に飛ばされて
幽霊のようにある夜に姿を消した。

Thank you for your interest in Emile NELLIGAN. I have been to Quebec and sensed European elements in the city. I felt a deep sympathy with French Canadian's fate. But Emile was a Parisian rather than a Quebecois.

Old French culture may have been preserved in Quebec rather in Paris. Very French city though adjacent to America. Quite different from any British Canada.
