僕の母 -- エミール・ネリガン

今日のエミール・ネリガンは母への愛を語っている。あまり先入観は持たずにできる限り素直に訳したいが、最近ネリガン協会だったかを見てしまった。どうでもいいことだが、彼は学業を放り出し、ボヘミアンの生活を送っていたらしい。この点でもパリの象徴派の先輩達を見習ったようである。母親は心配したのではないだろうか。

絵はメアリー・カサット Mary Stevenson Cassatt (1844 - 1926) の「若い母親」である。

Ma mère

Quelquefois sur ma tête elle met ses mains pures,
Blanches, ainsi que des frissons blancs de guipures.

Elle me baise au front, me parle tendrement,
D'une voix au son d'or mélancoliquement.

Elle a les yeux couleur de ma vague chimère,
O toute poésie, ô toute extase, ô Mère !

A l'autel de ses pieds je l'honore en pleurant,
Je suis toujours petit pour elle, quoique grand.

Oh! I have read this poem on page 36 of <Poesies completes> of Emile Nelligan. The painting is also beautiful.
I like all poems on Mother. This line "Elle me baise...D'une voix au son d'or mélancoliquement) shows well mother's affection. For me, my mother is my best friend and the person whom I love best.

Now, in France, some very radical feminists think that "La maternité(母性愛)" restrict women's freedom, but I don't agree.

I think that "La maternité" is one of the most beautiful things. And being mother is a holy thing that I don't dare to do or that I will not dare to do. I thank my mother.

I read an article ending with a conclusion that "motherly instinct" is just a mythology invented by male. Unfortunately, we have sad stories which reinforce the theory. Abused or murdered children by their mother.

Yes, I heard about that sad stories. They are shocking...Also there are some women who become hypochondriacs after giving birth to their babies. They can murder children. So, I think that some solutions are necessary in the society.
