今日のエミール・ネリガンは彼の一つの類型である、真面目に働いてきたが、報われずに人生を終えた人への哀悼の意を表し、神の祝福を祈るものである。すでにこのブログでも紹介した 修道僧の死 と同じ趣向であると考える。

Un Ange emporte sa capture.
Noël, sur la pauvre toiture,
Comme un De Profundis, s'abat.

L'artiste est mort en plein combat,
Les yeux rivés à sa sculpture.

Ô Paradis ! puisqu'il tomba,

努力の末に死せる職人
両眼は彫り物に釘付け。

It is a beautiful poem. The painting of Van Gogh matches well with poem. The repeated line "La bise geint, la porte bat" seems have a special meaning which is hidden...
