冬の夕暮 -- エミール・ネリガン

今日のエミール・ネリガンの詩は “Soir d'hiver” 「冬の夕暮」である。フランス語の詩のテキストとしては易しい方だろうが、意味不明の箇所があった。なぜ「ノルウェーへ行こう。」となるのか、韻の関係だろうか、私の無知からか。話者ははしゃいでいるのかどうかも分からなかった。年末の仕事もあり、今日からしばらくは、ネリガンとはお別れしたい。もう一度文法書を読み直す必要がありそうだ。

Soir d'hiver

Ah! comme la neige a neigé!
Ma vitre est un jardin de givre.
Ah! comme la neige a neigé!
Qu'est-ce que le spasme de vivre
A la douleur que j'ai, que j'ai.

Tous les étangs gisent gelés,
Mon âme est noire! Où-vis-je? où vais-je?

Je suis la nouvelle Norvège

I read this poem on page 215 in the book <Poesies completes d'Emile Nelligan>. Also this poem rhymes lines very well like his other poems.

I just learned English rhyme, but cannot understand French rhyme yet. It seems to me that German poems are close to English ones. But I cannot understand the difference between French rhyme and English rhyme. Is French rhyme more strict than English?

I think that in general, French rhyme is strict. I read poems of Yves Bonnefoy, Jean Cocteau, Guillaume Apolibaire, Paul Eluard, so on..Many Frech poems rhyme lines very well. Is German rhyme strict in poems? German is also a beautifyl language(It is Rilke's language^^), even if I cannot understand German language.

Thank you for your information. Emile Nelligan's poems are rhymed so well. An English professor said that it is impossible to imitate Italian or French rhymes in English.

今見直してみると、まったく動詞の意味が分かっていなかったと思います。何を考えていたのか、書くときに朦朧としていたのか。有難うございました。もう一度訳しなおす必要があります。

英語訳から逆に解釈しますと Nova Scotia（仏名 Nouvelle-Écosse）というのがカナダにあります。新大陸のスコットランドですが、ネリガンはそんな感じで la nouvelle Norvège という言葉を作ったのでしょうか。
