John Keats このキーツの詩は悪ふざけして書いたのであろうが、英語では成立しにくいとされる強弱格で韻文を書こうとしたものである。すなわち最初のシラブルにアクセントがあり、次のシラブルにアクセントが来ないようにするのである。最初にアクセントが来るためには命令文か疑問文で構成する場合が多い。この詩の最初の一行は明らかに強弱を狙っている。通常は「酒と女」の順番であるが、それだと強弱格が成立しない。そこで「女と酒」にしている。 最後に「歌(songs)」を持ってきたかったが、song と同韻の単語に困ったらしく、「嗅ぎタバコ(snuff)」にした。以下は私の英語の辞書で出来る限り、私の説に好都合な解釈で強と思われる箇所を太字で表記した。完全ではないが、強弱格が優勢な詩である。 Give me women, wine, and snuff Untill I cry out "hold, enough!" Je pense que <Give Me Women, Wine, and Snuff> va bien avec <Autoportrait avec Saskia> de Rembrant. ^^ J'ai appris que Rembrandt avait représenté le bonheur de vivre en couple du point de vue des plaisirs des sens et que ce tableau avait été un peu scandaleux dans le contexte puritain de la très protestante Amsterdam.

Rembrandt was a renowned painter in the 17th century, Holland's <Golden Age> , when people were rich enough to enjoy extravagant life style. But they are devoted to stoic Protestantism. Under strict religious censorship, Rembrandt can easily excuse for the <unmoral> paint. His self-portrait is as the prodigal son, a biblical person.
Contrastingly, Saskia appears sober, a bit funny.

Protestantism was harsh to his life. After Saskia died untimely, he had an affair with a woman, named Hendrickje who Rembrandt hired for houskeeping. He was accused of <adultery>.
