静かな春 クリスティーナ・ロセッティ

三歩格で一詩節四行の簡素な詩である。静かな、静かな春の歌。だれかが付曲しているかもしれない。

Spring Quiet

Gone were but the Winter,
Come were but the Spring,
I would go to a covert
Where the birds sing;

Where in the whitethorn
Singeth a thrush,
And a robin sings
In the holly-bush.

Full of fresh scents
Are the budding boughs
Arching high over
A cool green house:

Full of sweet scents,
And whispering air
Which sayeth softly:
"We spread no snare;

"Here dwell in safety,
Here dwell alone,
With a clear stream
And a mossy stone.

"Here the sun shineth
Most shadily;
Here is heard an echo
Of the far sea,
Though far off it be."

冬が去り
春が来たら
鳥が歌う
隠れ場に

サンザシの木で
ツグミは歌い
モチの木で
コマドリは歌う。

瑞々しく香る

d_c_laplaceさん今晩は。意外なところでお目にかかりました。クリスティーナさんに成り代わりましてお礼申し上げます。私は彼女の名前を記憶していなかったのですが、同世代の友人にききますと、英語の教科書に載っていた詩の作者とのことでした。下記のＵＲＬをごらん下さい。ご存知かと思いますが、ロセッティ一族はイタリア系でイギリスに移民し、ダンテを紹介した家族です。
