フランダースの野に ―― ジョン・マクリー

1918年11月11日11時に第一次世界大戦は終り、11月11日はカナダのメモリアル・デイになった。カナダで11月11日に朗読される詩がある。カナダの国民的英雄のジョン・マクリー John McRaeの「フランダースの野に」である。

この詩は ” In Flanders fields” の行をのぞけば、ロンド形式（脚韻が2音韻）である。

In Flanders Fields

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

フランダースの野にケシは
並んだ十字架の合間に咲き
我らの場所を標す。空には
勇敢なヒバリが飛び、歌うが
地上の大砲にかき消される。
