公園 ―― エズラ・パウンド

Albert Samain (1858-1900)の”Au jardin de l’Infante” の場面をとったものだそうである。なにやらスペインの王女の話らしい。ということで訳してみた。原作を知らないので、パウンドがどんな悪戯をしているのか見当も付かない。

The Garden

Like a skein of loose silk blown against a wall
She walks by the railing of a path in Kensington Gardens,
And she is dying piece-meal

Of a sort of emotional anaemia.

And round about there is a rabble
Of the filthy, sturdy, unkillable infants of the very poor.
They shall inherit the earth.

In her is the end of breeding.
Her boredom is exquisite and excessive.
She would like some one to speak to her,
And is almost afraid that I

Will commit that indiscretion.

ケンシントン公園の通り道の柵にそって歩く…
彼女は死に向かっている
感情的貧血症の一種。

まわり群がる不衛生でも
丈夫で死なない貧乏人の子供たち。
彼ら地を継がん。

彼女で血統は絶える。
彼女は倦怠の極に達している。
彼女は話しかけてほしいが
恐怖というほど嫌なのは
私が不謹慎に話しかけること。
