I wish you a happy new year! I know that you like Sumo, so I present you an Israel comedy movie <A matter of size> that I watched recently on a South korean TV chanel in the late night.

In “A Matter of Size,’’ four Israeli friends of a certain weight become amateur sumo wrestlers. Their coach is a Japanese man who was a real coach of Sumo in Japn but who owns a japanese restaurant in Israel for a mysterious reason.

In this movie, there is also an Israelian woman of a certain weighter and having martial arts talent. She wants to become Sumo wresler, but according to Japanese tradition, women cannot become Sumo wresler, so she has to give up her dream...

Yes, I am a Sumo fan if not enthusiastic. I am also 春日王(from Seoul)'s fan who is well-behaved and well known for devoutness to his mother.

I have never known “A Matter of Size" , very interesting. Now, people feel inferiority complex to obesity and go to fitness-club. Fat men should challenge Sumo. Sumo is very tough sport, but not so painful as fitness. They can be proud of great body in the Sumo world.

We have a long tradition of Woman Sumo 女相撲. Woman Sumo were popular attraction of festival till the edo era. Woman wresler wore nothing but loincloth, just like their male counterpart. No discrimination by sex.

But after the Meiji Restoration, Woman Sumo was so embarassing to foreigners eye. The Government ordered that women wear not only loincloths but also undershirts and drawers.

Woman Sumo was lewd show when guys could not enjoy strip teaser's dance( American culture after the World War II).

In any time, there are fat and powerful women. They want to fight for Champion belts 横綱 in Sumo tournament. As a minor and wholesome sports 女相撲 is held every year. A 外人女性 won the champion belt. This is not professional sports then not finacially rewarded. Only Fame.

The tournament is held in 川濯神社 in Hokkaido. In 川濯神社 God/Godess as a gurdian for women. Here Shinto priest is female. Very feministic.

Of course, the Sumo World is the last and symbolic stronghold of male-dominancy. Women cannot stand on the "sacred" ring. Various trophies are handed to Champion. Trophies such as Governnors of Tokyo, Nagoya, Ohsaka, Fukuoka, ambassadors from Chko,Mongolia, Bulgaria and so on. But Ohsaka had once prefectural governess. That was a big problem. Traditinalist Sumo World refused the governess to stand on the sacred ring.

I want to decorate my room with many paintings of Yukiko-san with japanese style decorations, for exemple, Yukiko-san with sakura, kabuki actor, kabuki scene, bunraku dolls, kyoto's temples, or modern Tokyo's cafe, so on.
Nowadays, I try to present to various francophone people in French, Yukiko-san and the history of Ichimatsu dolls.

Yukiko-san was made by 林陽辰先生 in 昭和 era. So I can understand that Yukiko-san was made between 1926 and 1989? I am very curious of the life of 林陽辰先生 as artist of Ichmatsu dolls and how he created Yukiko-san. Because I would like to present him and Yukiko-san in French. :)

For the history of Ichimatsu dolls, I am very interested in Friendship doll Exchange of 1927 between Japan and USA. I heard that 58 large scale Ichimatsu dolls were sent to USA as gestures of good will and of friendship with USA. So Shirley Temple, very popular american child movie star received an Ichimatsu doll as gift. And I am also very interested in the sad story of お菊人形, one day I would kike to visit 萬念寺 in Hokkaido, where お菊人形 is preserved. お菊人形 is a little famous in South Korea, because on TV, お菊人形 was presented. But unfortunately, this doll famous in South korea, so raditional many South koreans are afraid of Japanese traditional dolls, especially Ichimatsu dolls. In South Korea, the name of Ichimatsu dolls are not well known, but Ichimatsu dolls are considered as scary dolls whose hair grow.

Thanks for Shirley Temple's story. Have you ever seen her movie? I hear that she is a child star of legendary popularity. My mother and aunts must have seen her.

She is so cute. But it is funny that she wore the kimono with the right side under the left. Nowaday Hollywood stars never wear the wrong way. I remember Liz taylor wore kimono-like nightgown the wrong way. Long long ago.

春日王 is now in Minor League(十両). His wrestling style is so Korean. He is handicapped. If he was an ethnic Korean and free from Korean wrestling, he would be very promising.

But he got five consecutive victories in the fifth day. Clean score. He will return back major League (幕内)in the next tournament

Concerning Yukiko-san, she is the only one Than I want to have in the world. I have already contacted by email the auther of the book(where various photos of Yukiko-san are presented), Ms. Saito Emiko(the president of Ichimatsu doll museum in Tokyo), in order to know if I can buy Yukiko-san.

Ms. Saito, she was very kind. But according to her, Yukiko-san was already sold out. I am sad, becaus I cannot buy her, But I am sure that Yukiko-san was bought by a person who respects the values of Ichimatsu dolls, because the clients who visit Ms. Saito's museum are real collectors of Ichimatsu dolls.

I think that Ichimatsu dolls are really beautiful japanese traditional culture, so I hope that the tradition of Ichimatsu dolls do not extinguish. I think that even if the demand on Ichimatsu dolls decreases, that will \make Ichimatsu dolls more unique and collectable.

Origami entered from Japan in Korea, In South Korea, origami is popular. I like patterns of japanese origami papers. I enjoy also making box covered with origami papper's patterns.

Oh, we have missed the tournament in Osaka. Japan Sumo Association is involved in several scandals. Some wrestlers were connected with Mafiosos. Others played fixed matches. Sumo world is in danger now. What a pity.
