これまで死ねば天国に行けるはずのエミリーの世界。恐ろしい地獄が待ち受ける聖ヨハネの黙示録の描写を思わせる詩である。誤解であろうか、今回の詩が一番不可解であった。とりあえず非難覚悟で投稿する。

エミリーは夏と太陽の崇拝者ではあるが、この詩は彼女が好んで描く「極夜」の情景である。私はそう断定したいが、私の好みによる偏った誤解でないことを願う。「24時間以内にお届けします」というアメリカの宿題業者GradeSaver に採り上げられた詩であるから、アメリカの学生を悩ませた実績のあるパズルらしい。

 

エミリーは朝日と夕日を擬人法で同時に登場させる手法で「極夜」を表現してきたが、ここでは双子に変身させている。
