エミリー・ディキンソン

Margaret はギリシャ語でPearlという意味であり、花の名となった。花のMargaretの英語のニックネイムがDaisy である。庭のDaisy を見て真珠のMargaretを連想したのは単なる比喩でなく、彼女の言葉遊びでもあるとおもうが、どうであろう。

「彼」とはエミリーの「夢」であろう。夜毎甘い夢を期待して「眠り」という投資をするが、報われる時もあれば恐ろしい「夢」を見ることもある。まさに「眠り」と「夢」との商取引であり、儲けるときも損する時もある。だが昼までには「夢」を忘れてしまう。
