「今日の詩」はロングフェローの「橋」である。ロングフェローはせっせとハーバードからボストン橋を通り、ボストンのアップルトン家の令嬢ファニーに求愛活動した。その成果が上がって彼女と結婚したが、彼女は４４才の時火傷を負い死亡した。今日の詩は彼の傷心を綴ったものである。 The Bridge I stood on the bridge at midnight, As the clocks were striking the hour, And the moon rose o'er the city, Behind the dark church-tower. I saw her bright reflection In the waters under me, Like a golden goblet falling And sinking into the sea. And far in the hazy distance Of that lovely night in June, The blaze of the flaming furnace Gleamed redder than the moon. 今日もトム・トムスンの絵にアルフォンス・ボールガールの詩 Blancheur 「純白」を添えることにする。トム・トムスンはカナダ東部トロントにいたから、本物のカナダの冬の壮絶な美しさと恐ろしさを知っていた人である。一瞬にしてあたりが真っ白になり、道が分からなくなり純白の大平原になってしまう。 Blancheur C'est la neige tourbillonnante Qui voltige dans l'air, mousseline vivante, La neige qui s'arma, dans l'extase du froid, D'une beauté trop loin de la vie et traîtresse. La neige pleine de caresses, Si douce au pas quand elle choit. Ceux-là dont le sang bout dans les veines, les forts, Devant la blancheur qui s'amasse Songent aux glissements rapides sur la glace, Aux rudes chasses dans le nord, Aux descentes vertigineuses dans les côtes. Pour eux l'hiver se fait le plus charmant des hôtes. Dans l'hiver détesté, les faibles, les vaincus Sentiront des couteaux s'incruster dans leurs membres. Il y aura d'atroces chambres Où pâtiront des enfants nus. Des gorges râleront le malheur des poitrines, La fièvre écrasera les débiles échines. La neige omniprésente impose sa splendeur À l'infini des champs, aux bois dominateurs. Dans les chemins comblés, marqués par les seuls arbres, Où court la poudrerie en nuages sifflants, On trouvera demain des cadavres de marbre. Mais que les corbillards seront beaux dans ce blanc ! 今日のドイツの詩はブレヒトの "Schlechte Zeit für Lyrik" 私は「詩の冬の時代」と訳した。ドイツ共産党員であったブレヒトはナチ台頭で１９３３年デンマークに逃れ５年間亡命生活を送った。ドイツ版ウィキペディアには解説があったので、私は斜め読みした。 彼は冬の時代の詩人を、土地が痩せて瘤のできた樹や労働で若くして背中の曲がった農婦に喩えている。解説では最初の三行はブレヒトをことを言っているとしている。私は得意の絶頂にあるヒトラーの事かと思った。それで訳は曖昧になっているかもしれない。 最後の詩節では”die Reden des ANstreichers”を「ペンキ屋の演説」と訳した。これはヒトラーのことである。彼は絵描き志望であったし、ドイツ全体を一色に塗り潰そうとして演説していた。 Schlechte Zeit für Lyrik Ich weiß doch: nur der Glückliche Ist beliebt. Seine Stimme Hört man gern. Sein Gesicht ist schön. Der verkrüppelte Baum im Hof Zeigt auf den schlechten Boden, aber Die Vorübergehenden schimpfen ihn einen Krüppel Doch mit Recht. Die grünen Boote und die lustigen Segel des Sundes Sehe ich nicht. Von allem Sehe ich nur der Fischer rissiges Garnnetz. Warum rede ich nur davon Daß die vierzigjährige Häuslerin gekrümmt geht? Die Brüste der Mädchen sind warm wie ehedem. In meinem Lied ein Reim Käme mir fast vor wie Übermut. In mir streiten sich Die Begeisterung über den blühenden Apfelbaum Und das Entsetzen über die Reden des ANstreichers. Aber nur das zweite Drängt mich zum Schrebtisch. Brecht 詩の冬の時代 僕には分かっている：幸運な男は 愛さるもの。誰もが話を 聞いてくれる。表情は輝いている。 庭の樹がねじれている 土地が悪いからだが 通りがかる人たちは権威を持って 瘤だけを罵る。 緑の舟と海峡の陽気な帆を 僕は見やしない。ただ 漁師たちの綻びた網を見ている。 日雇い農婦が四十歳で背中が曲がっている話を どうしてするかって？ 女の胸は以前と変わらず 暖かいのだ。 夢中になって直ぐに 韻が私の詩に浮かんだろうに。 僕の中で混乱する 花咲く林檎樹への憧憬と ペンキ屋の演説への熱狂とが とくに二番目が僕を 机へと向かわせる。 ブレヒト 写真はナチ党員による焚書である。ブレヒトの作品も当然焚書の対象になった。
