受容 -- フロスト

「今日の詩」の選者が送ってきた詩はフロストの "Acceptance"、詩集 "West-running Brook”に所収の詩である。"Acceptance"を「受容」と訳してよいものか？日本語にすると難しい英語を子供がなんの抵抗もなく使っている事がある。この辺のニュアンスは私には分からない。


Acceptance

When the spent sun throws up its rays on cloud
And goes down burning into the gulf below,
No voice in nature is heard to cry aloud
At what has happened. Birds, at least must know
It is the change to darkness in the sky.
Murmuring something quiet in her breast,
One bird begins to close a faded eye;
Or overtaken too far from his nest,
Hurrying low above the grove, some waif
Swoops just in time to his remembered tree.
At most he thinks or twitters softly, 'Safe!
Now let the night be dark for all of me.
Let the night be too dark for me to see
Into the future. Let what will be, be.'

受容

疲れ果てた太陽　光線を雲に散らし
燃えながら湾の下に落ちていく
自然には起きたことで
嘆く声はない。鳥が知るべきは
空は暗くなりはじめたことだ。
胸の内を何事かつぶやきながら
鳥は暗い目を閉じ始めた。
森の上を急ぎ　さまよう鳥は
記憶していた木に飛び降りる。
鳥が考え囀ることはせいぜい「無事だった！
僕には夜は暗い方がいい。
夜は暗くて未来が見えない
それがいい　なるようになるがいい」
