春に会うと冷静でいられない ―― エミリー・ディキンソン

春を迎える少女のロマンチックな気持ち。大好きな女友達との出会いを語る調子。別れるときも淋しくはない。現在形で彼女との友情を語りながら、最後に過去形で締めている。鮮やかである。

第一大戦後華やかな王朝は崩壊していくが、残された時代はいつもと変わらぬわびしい田園の風景。ハーディの悲観的な気分がにじみでている詩。バラッド形式の四行詩が三詩節。
