窓 その六 手紙

彼氏はラブ・レターをだそうか、直接会って愛を打ち明けようか迷っている。テニスンはこの逡巡する気持ちを短い詩行の繰り返しで表現する。大家らしからぬ素朴な歌だが、作曲の邪魔をしないという配慮かもしれない。

なんと気立ての良い娘
こんな娘は何処にもいない！
愛らしい手
愛らしい足
潤んだ優しい瞳。
手紙を出そうか？
行ってみようか？
結婚してくれないと訊く？
イイエだよと言う人も
ハイだよと言う人も！

直に訊いたら、ああ
恥ずかしいからイイエかな。
手紙よ、飛んでいけ
谷間の光に飛んでいけ。
潤んだ瞳に告げておくれ。
イイエだよと言う人も
でもイイエではないはず。
理由はまた話そう。
