感謝とは――「ご親切」に

感謝とは――「ご親切」に
ふれる事ではない
静かにそれとなく謝意を
表すこと。

海が測鉛線に応えないとき
海はないのか
海底はもっと深いのか
分からない。

＊上の絵は19世紀の船員の lead line/sounding line で水深測定の様子。

＊「ご親切に感謝します Thank you for your kindness」と述べるのが感謝ではない。感謝の「深さ」は海の深さを測る「測鉛線」で計るべきでない。それとても不正確。日本語に直訳できない詩である。彼女の主張を伝えるべく多少意訳した。第一詩節の out of plum は第二詩節の lead line と掛けている。どうしても日本語で上手く表現できなかった。
