今日はエミリーの義理の妹であるスーザンの２８回目の誕生日に、エミリーが送った詩である。エミリーとスーザンは同年、同月に生まれているが、スーザンは十日遅れて生まれているので辛うじて妹である。彼女はエミリーの兄のオースティンと結婚し、ディキンソン家の敷地内の家に住んだ。実の妹は通称ヴィニーであり、エミリーと同じ家に住み、生涯未婚であった女性である。
