窓 その五 春 テニスン

この「春」という詩がサリヴァンとテニスンの連作歌曲集「窓」の一部であることを知らずにブログに投稿してしまった。この訳は「窓」の構成順序を尊重して再度投稿する。

テニスンは連作の題を「ミソサザイの歌(The Songs of the Wrens)」とする予定であった。作曲者の意向であろうか「窓(The Window)」になった。前回同様に、学術名ミソサザイは少しうるさい感じなのでサザイとした。

Spring

Birds' love and birds' song
Flying here and there,

And you with gold for hair!

Passing with the weather,

窓 その四 冬 テニスン

恋人は冬を迎えて寒さをしのいでいる。火を見詰めながらの単調な我慢の日々。テニスンは歌唱可能性を意識したのか、単調な冬の日常を描写する所では、類似した音で行を繰り返している。単調さに耐えかねた箇所では、いきなり長い行を持って来て調子を変えている。

冬

霜が降り
焚火が楽しい。
薪がよく乾き
炎がきれい。

デブのヤマネも
ミツバチも静か。
ハエは死んだ。
家の芯まで冷えるが

テニスン

窓 その三 いない！

テニスンの「窓」から「いない！」である。大変だ！彼女がいなくなった。恋人の家への先導役だった光も雲も同時にいなくなった。彼に忠実なのは陰だけである。途方にくれる彼氏だが、南方に雷雲と稲妻を見た。光と雲のあるところ彼女はいるはず。彼女は南にいるはずというお話である。

いない！

光は彼女と去り

窓 その二 窓辺で テニスン

歌曲集「窓」の第二曲は、彼女の窓辺に立ったが、残念ながら部屋によじ登れない彼氏。妬ましいが、ヘリック以来恋人の代理となるのはバラのツタである。

窓 その一 丘の上で テニスン

昨日訳した「春」はサリヴァンの歌曲集「窓」に含まれている。作詩はテニスンである。テニスンは「ミソサザイの歌」と題し全部で１２編の詩を書いたが、サリヴァンが付曲したのは１１曲である。昨日サリヴァンの「窓」をウェッブ上で見つけたので、順番に訳していこうかと思う。テニスンは作品として完成度の高い読むための詩というよりは、歌唱可能な詩を心がけたのだろう。いつもの技巧が見られない。各行の音節数もまちまちであるし、無韻詩である。

単純な今日の詩も日本語訳には苦労した。やはり難しかったが、とりあえず投稿することにした。

The Window No.1

On the Hill

The lights and shadows fly.
Yonder it brightens and darkens
down on the plain
A jewel, a jewel dear to lovers eye.
Oh is it the brook, or a pool,
or her window pane,
When the winds are up in the morning?

Clouds that are rising above,
O winds and lights and shadows
