The Imperial Sand Dunes are the largest mass of sand dunes in California. The dune system extends for more than 40 miles along the eastern edge of the imperial valley agricultural region in a band averaging five miles in width. It is divided into three areas. The northern most area is known as Mammoth Wash which is adjoined to the south by the North Algodones Dunes Wilderness (closed to motorized use). The largest and most heavily used area is located south of Highway 78, continuing just past I-8. (BLM PDF Map)

Elevation - 800 ft. Spectacular open area with every type of dune formation found here. The dunes are popular for motorized OHV use of all types, this is a very active, loud and dusty site. Most visitors have specialized tires and equipment for the sand. Camping is dispersed across the bench in front of the dunes on the north. There are very few other recreation activities here.
The dunes are next to the Amargosa River, determined eligible for the Wild & Scenic River System in

Bordered by steep volcanic hills and the slow running Amargosa River, the region is easily recognized from a distance by its distinctive sand dunes. The elevation here varies from 700 feet, at the river,  to 1200 feet at the top of Competition Hill, the tallest of the dunes.
The historic Tonapah and Tidewater Railroad, to the east, was in operation between 1905 and 1940. The vegetation here consists of creosote scrub, some annual grasses, and  wildflowers in the spring. The low elevation in the area makes for warm to extremely hot conditions in spring and summer. Early spring wildflower displays in this vicinity can be quite impressive.

The Open Area is located south of the Amargosa River and east of Highway 127, about 31 miles north of Baker, California. There are two ways of getting to the dunes.
The Little Dunes staging and camping area is directly off Highway 127, conveniently located for immediate staging. One mile north of here, just off Highway 127, is Dumont Road, a dirt road which follows and crosses the river, leading  to the main field of large dunes.
As shown on the map, the Kingston Range Wilderness borders the riding area to the north. This area is closed to motor vehicles. Travel outside the riding area to the south and east enters lands designated as Closed or Limited Use and motor vehicle use is permitted only on designated routes. Off route travel is not permited in Limited Use areas and the Salt Creek Hills ACEC. To the west of Hwy 127 is Death Valley National Park and visitation within the park must abide by National Parks regulations.
Activities
Most visitors ride motorcycles or ATVs, sand rails, or tour the area in vehicles with four-wheel-drive. The area around Dumont Road is used extensively for OHV and sand rail staging and play. There are many opportunities for hiking, rock scrambling, rockhounding, and bird-, and wildlife-watching in the hills away from the dunes.
The Dumont Dunes Off-Highway Vehicle Area consists of several riding opportunities.  The Dumont “Little” Dunes is a favorite place for families with smaller children.  The dune field is more forgiving to riders with novice to intermediate skill levels and those who wish to practice in a safer environment.  This small low dune field is connected to the main Dumont dune field by a corridor and is there to allow all types of off-road vehicles to legally access the two dune fields.
The main dune field is Dumont Dunes.  This field  consists of steep dunes with sharp razor backs and deep witches eyes and should be traversed by experienced dune riders.  Riders should always do a check ride to find changes in the dune field before attempting a high speed run.   The back side of the dunes  around the race track is an excellent place for novice and intermediate riders to traverse a multitude of dunes that approximate their skill level.
There several areas around the dune fields that are within the boundary of the off-highway Vehicle Area and will challenge the novice and intermediate riders on terrain other than sand  The Sperry Wash Route is  an open “limited use” route that travels up the Amargosa River to Sperry Wash.  This route travels over some extremely rocky and rutted terrain but is a good challenge for the novice to intermediate rider.  This route is limited use and straying from the marked route is prohibited.
Extremes of heat and cold are common. Emergency help is not immediate.

Best Individual Truck Stops
Some of the best truck stops are part of larger chains while others are smaller operations. Highlands Petro Truck Stop in Wisconsin is part of a smaller regional chain of stops and offers many amenities for drivers, but with the added bonus of health maintenance; providing health checkups and chiropractor appointments for weary drivers. Jubitz Travel Center in Portland offers drivers plenty of amenities but adds luxuriously comfortable rooms for overnight stays, Jacuzzis, exercise facilities, and a styling salon to meet every need.

The largest truck stop in America is the Iowa 80, found outside of Walcott, Iowa on Interstate 80. This 64-acre complex prides itself on having a movie theater, game room, hair salon, and dentist, as well as a truck wash and food court with several fast food chains.

Books of Truck Stops
You can look informations up from many websites through the Internet, Truck Stop Guide .com and so on. Truck Stop Companies have websites with  their location search pages. These were mentioned above. On other hand, could get a booklet at a franchise Truk Stop while on the road. Almost all of Truk Stops Booklets include the Locations Information. Another way, there are many books about Truck Stops. Some of them contain large data and convay more inforemation of Truck stops listed over 6,000 places. Make your travel easier as an OTR professional driver, highway traveler, or RV enthusiast.

Truck Stop Advice
In the past, truck stops had a disreputable character of being somewhat shady. At times, some were even considered dangerous in terms of a few of the people hanging around there. It was not a safe place to be when making a stop on an overnight drive at 3am. Today, truck stops have evolved into clean, family friendly establishments and their services cater to those who are passing through but need assistance with any number of needs or inquiries.

Many truck stops have put a ban on negative behavior and do not tolerate bad conduct. As with any other place though, too much loitering can cause problems and just in case, travelers should always watch for who is nearby. The intended purpose of a truck stop is just a stop with the plan to eventually get back on the road. A truck stop’s many conveniences and facilities do make a long trip a little more enjoyable, and give many people good reasons to stop.

”Track Stop” is a Large-Scale Gas Station,
Not only for trucks but cars and RVs.

Introduction
Truck stops have served Interstate and highway drivers for more than 60 years, providing fuel, food, and a place to rest for many weary travelers. Not only for professional truck drivers but for passenger car, motorbike and RV drivers/passengers. Found every few miles across America, these stops have evolved into more than just a place to fill up the tank.

Origins and Services
Truck stops originally developed as a means of providing diesel gas on the highways for large delivery trucks. Originally small operations in the 1940s, these truck stops were found on highways and replaced some of the local filling stations for travelers going longer distances. The 1950s began the initiation of the Interstate Highway System, championed by Dwight D. Eisenhower. Interstates were available for long distance travel for families driving extended trips and became available routes for long distance truck drivers to carry their goods across the country.

Truck stops developed along these routes as a way of providing gas for drivers without completely going off course into small towns and trying to find filling stations. Eventually, as the trucking industry developed, truck stops began to offer more services for those who logged many hours on the road. They provided places to park the truck and sleep, showers for drivers, and food. Today, many truck stops are plazas that offer fuel and restrooms as well as restaurants, lounges, souvenir shops, and gaming centers for travelers and truckers alike.

Locating Truck Stops
Finding a truck stop is uncomplicated since there are plenty located on major routes. Many truck stops are franchises that have signage posted along routes on billboards and road signs to let travelers know of upcoming stops. Guidebooks and atlases usually list available truck stops and should be consulted when planning a driving route. Internet websites dedicated to locating stops can be found by searching for locations, and use of GPS systems in a vehicle will help determine where to stop. Many trucking companies have contracts with specific truck stop franchises, stating they will only fill up at certain ones. These truck drivers know where locations are on their route so they can plan when to fill up and when to rest.

Never exists on the Interstate right-of-way
United States Code(Section 111 of Title 23) prohibits the States from commercializing the right-of-way along the Interstate System. The original reason for this clause was to protect innumerable small towns whose survival depended upon providing roadside services. (Private truck stops and travel plazas have blossomed into a $171 billion industry in the United States) Therefore, the standard practice is that private businesses must buy up land near existing exits and build their own facilities to serve travelers and truckers..

There is no commercial facilities at Rest Areas on the Interstate right-of-way.

Let the highway traveler turn off the Interstate System
The Interstate System is toll free except for the toll turnpikes that provided commercial facilities in service areas for motorists. Rest areas on the Interstate right-of-way, are intended to serve motorists by allowing them to take a short break, use the rest rooms, shake off drowsiness, and then move on. The absence of commercial services (except for vending machines) means motorists can stop without any pressure to make purchases. For food, gasoline, lodging, and other commercial services, motorists can leave the highway and return to it without a toll charge. Refer to an article ”Rest Areas in the US

詳しくは、”Rest Areas in the US”へ)

Attempts to remove the federal ban on privatized rest areas
In 2003, President George W. Bush's federal highway funding reauthorization bill contained a clause allowing states to start experimenting with privatized rest areas on Interstate highways. The clause was fiercely resisted by NATSO, which argued that allowing such rest areas would shift revenue to state governments (in the form of lease payments) that would have gone to local governments (in the form of property and sales taxes). NATSO also argued that by destroying private commercial truck stops, the bill would result in an epidemic of drowsy truck drivers, since such stops currently provide about 90% of the parking spaces used by American truck drivers while in transit. (Refer to NATSO:Rest Area Commercialization 2012)

How Can This Be Happening in America?

Truck Stop Chains and Franchises
Truck stops range from the small roadside fuel pump islands to large plazas with multiple amenities. Major chains have developed, offering services across the country. The chains are usually competitive in prices and offer one stop access for travelers’ needs. Many large franchises have become safe and family friendly places for rest, including restaurant chains inside buildings. Some of the larger chains of truck stops are Roady’s, Flying J, and Pilot Travel Centers, among others.
