【訃報】アラン・ホールズワース氏

アラン・ホールズワース氏　７０歳（米ギタリスト）１６日、家族がフェイスブックで死去を明らかにした。

　英国出身で米カリフォルニア州南部に居住。１９７０年代からプログレッシブロック系のバンドなどで活動。ジャンルにとらわれず卓越した技巧を駆使する演奏スタイルで「ギタリストの中のギタリスト」などと呼ばれ、８３年に発表したアルバム「ロード・ゲームス」はグラミー賞候補に選ばれた。（読売）

Allan Holdsworth で思い出すのは、やはり Soft Machine と UK ですね。

1980年台以降のソロ・プロジェクトは何枚か聴いたことがあるのですが、
シンタックスというギターの形をしたシンセサイザーにあまり興味を見出せなかったです。

本日(2012/7/17) Deep Purple のジョン・ロードが他界したというニュースが伝えられました。

私と Deep Purple の出会いは再結成後のアルバム ｢Perfect Strangers｣・｢House Of Blue Light｣ でした。

中学生の頃です。その後あれこれレンタルで借りて、そして結構気に入っていました。

私と 1970年代ロックを結びつけたのは何を隠そう Deep Purple だったわけなのです。

 

今日は彼らの代表曲でもある Highway Star をご紹介します。

Weather Report の Port Of Entry をご紹介します。

音源は 1980年 ロンドンの Hammersmith Odeon におけるライブです。

 

この演奏では、アルバム 『Night Passage』 における同曲の２倍以上の長さで演奏されており、

それゆえ上記のアルバムに収録された演奏は編集してあるのだと思います。

特筆すべきはなんと言っても Jaco のベースです。

3:40 過ぎあたりから終わりまで続く 「ベースソロ／リードベース」 は圧巻です。

彼のベースラインにじっと耳を傾け、同時に聞こえてくる他のメンバーの演奏を鑑賞すれば良いかと思います。

まだ頭髪中央部の剃り込みをしておらず、また化粧もしていない Peter Gabriel
