Aha! Today's topic is "booze!"
Yes, I used to be a heavy drinker when I was young. So I have a lot of stories
concerning elbow-bending.
Yes, the phrase "under the weather" is kinda very familiar to me. But it has
other meanings. You know, it means not only "hangover" but also, in general, ah,
"out of shape" and "sick."

And the first word "under" has just reminded me of an idiom like "drink someone
under the table." Yes, as you guessed, every time we hit the booze I would always
drink my buddies under the table. Hahaha.
But nowadays, I'm not so young, and it's not the case any more.(^^;

Many thanks for res. Familiar with under the weather? I'm not sure if it is good, but you really enjoyed yourself with drinking!
I am bit surprised that Mukaezake is also western custom. In fact it never worked for me.

The problem is that some non-Japanese would sometimes give you a puzzled look
when using "hair of the dog." Chances are that "hair of the dog" is not the
widely accepted phrase among even English native speakers compared to 迎え酒
in our society. That's what I experienced when shooting the breeze with some
of my English speaking friends.

So I would often say like 'It is said in Japan, the best cure for a hangover
is to drink "another one." I mean "one poison drives out another."' ^^
I seem to have talked up a storm. But I'm still holding back from going full-out.

Thank you for your res. WOW! You know everything. Indeed, I've never heard native speakers tell about hair of the dog.
In fact, I doubt if 迎え酒 really works, as it always backfires me, like getting hangover even worse.

↑To tell you the truth, I also doubted the effectiveness of a hair of the dog despite
my thumbs-up to it so far. My comments were simply "embroideries!" I mean, I have made
the exchange of comments more interesting. Hahaha...
In short, I share your views and opinions about it. Yes, you're right. It's definitely
bad for the body! You'd better not go for a hair of the dog for anything! Instead, just
sleep it off if you have time.
