昭和50年、来日されたイギリスのエリザベス女王は、強く希望され、この地を訪れました。ゆっくりと全体を見渡し、そして10分間の瞑想。
In 1975, Queen Elizabeth, who came to Japan, strongly wished and
visited this place. She slowly took the view of the garden, and deeply meditated for 10 minutes. 京都 大雲山 龍安寺の石庭。
幅25ｍ、奥行10ｍ、一面に白い砂。浮かぶは大小15個の石。この15個は、どこから見ても、一度に全てを見ることはできないと言われています。
It’s the rock garden of Daiunzan Ryoan-ji temple. It is 25m in width
and 10m in depth. 15 various-sized rocks are scattered on the white gravel. It is said that not all of the 15 rocks are visible all at once from any angle on the veranda. 石庭を囲む塀は、奥に向かうにつれて低くなっていますが、これは、遠近法を巧みに使い、訪れた人に奥行きを感じてもらうためです。
The fence surrounding the rock garden becomes lower as it goes
toward the deep. This is so that the visitors can feel the depth by use of perspective drawing. この石庭。作庭の時期、作者、それに作者の意図など詳しいことが分かっていません。だから逆に想像をかき立てられます。
We have no idea of when this rock garden was made by whom as
well as what is intended by the designer. This stirs our imagination. 白い砂は大自然か大海原か、あるいは大宇宙なのか。石は一体何を表現しているのか。作者は、何を訴えたかったのか。
The white gravel means the great nature or the ocean, or possibly a
universe. What are the rocks trying to express? What did the designer try to appeal? 方丈という建物をはさんで、石庭とは逆の位置に蹲踞（つくばい：茶室に入る前に手や口を清めるための手水を張っておく石）が置かれています。水戸光圀の寄進とされていますが、ここには「吾唯知足」（われ、ただ足るを知る）と書かれてあります。
「満ち足りていることを知り、決して欲を持たない」「知足のものは、貧しといえども富めり、不知足のものは、富めりといえども貧し」 In the opposite side of the rock garden by the building called “Hojo”
(the residence of the abbots), a Tsukubai is placed. Tsukubai is a stone basin filled with water to wash the hands and mouth before entering the tea house. It is said that the stone is donated by MITO Mitsukuni. The words of “ware tada taru wo shiru, or I simply know what is
enough, are carved. This means “one knows that one is satisfied, and doesn’t have any
greed, “ or “One with sufficient knowledge is happy even if one is poor, and one without sufficient knowledge is unhappy even if one is rich”. 私たちへのメッセージは、心に響きます。
This message to us is amazingly impressive.

The kare-sansui, or zen garden at Ryōan-ji
Ryōan-ji (龍安寺, The Temple of the Dragon at Peace) is a Zen temple
located in northwest Kyoto, Japan. It belongs to the Myōshin-ji school of the Rinzai branch of Zen Buddhism. The temple garden is considered to be one of the finest examples of a kare-sansui, a Japanese rock garden, or zen garden, in Japan. The temple and gardens are listed as Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto, and as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The temple's name is synonymous with the temple's famous 'Zen
garden', the karesansui (dry landscape) rock garden, thought to have been built in the late 15th century. これ↓、英語で何と言うんだ?? どなたか教えてください。

一度、ファンレターをメールしたら返事が返ってきました。実在の人物でした。
励みになるってありました。 今回もまたまた 深イイ話 と思うんですが。。。

甲子園球場では連日熱戦が続いています。たとえ記録に残らなくても、記憶にとどめたい歴史の１ページが、ここにあります。
High school baseball national championship games are now ongoing
in the Koshien stadium in Hyogo. Today, let me tell you one leaf of the history despite the fact that this
story is not in any record. 今から69年前、昭和17年の甲子園大会は「太平洋戦争のため中止」というのが公式記録です。しかし、実際は開催されていました。
Officially speaking, the Championship in 1942 was cancelled due to
the WWII, but actually held in Koshien. 既に戦争に突入していましたが、当時の政府は、戦意高揚を目的に「大日本体育会」を発足させ、野球を含む11種の競技を開催しました。開会式の場所は橿原神宮。
Although the war had already begun, the government held the high
school championship under the name of “the Great National Athletics Meet” for the purpose of motivating people towards the war. The opening ceremony was held in Kashihara-Jingu, Nara. 16校が参加して行われた甲子園大会、注目を集めたのは平安中の富樫投手。一回戦はノーヒットノーラン、二回戦は一安打完封でした。しかし、この時、肩に激痛が走っていました。
The baseball was played in Koshien, joined by 16 schools, where a
pitcher in Heian High, TOGASHI, drew a great attention. He achieved no hitter in the first round, and pitched a shutout with only one base hit in the second game. But he suffered from very bad pain in his shoulder. 実は、この大会、打者は投球をよけてはいけない、控え選手との交代も禁止でした。これらは責任回避とされたのです。
Actually, in the tournament, the batters were not allowed to dodge
the pitched ball, or the players couldn’t be replaced, as those were regarded as not assuming proper responsibilities. 平安中の準決勝は、試合途中に雨で再試合。準決勝と決勝は同じ日に行われることになりました。その方が鍛錬になるとされたのです。午前8時から行われた準決勝の広島商業戦は肩の痛みに耐えつつ、8対4で勝ち、午後2時からの決勝戦に臨みます。
Rain during the game suspended the semi-final of Heian High, thus
the semi-final and final to be played in one day, because it was thought to be more disciplinary /dísəplɪnèri/. TOGASHI of Heian High won the semi-final, starting at 8:00, by 8 to 4 against Hiroshima Commercial High, bearing the pain firmly, and also played in the final starting at 14:00 on the same day. 徳島商業との決勝は6対6で延長11回へ。11回表に平安は1点を勝ち越しますが、その裏、富樫投手は押し出しで同点にされ、そして、次の打者にも2ストライク3ボール。最後の力をふりしぼった6球目はストライクゾーンから外れ、ついに力尽きました。この大会、勝っても負けても涙は許されませんでした。
The final with Tokushima Commercial High went into the 11th
inning,tied at 6 and 6. Heian High scored in the top of the inning but
TOGASHI was equalized by a walk with base loaded.
Next batter.
3 balls and 2 strikes.
TOGASHI pitched with his full strength. Result was another walk.
He gave in. But remember! It was not allowed for both of winners and losers to
shed tears. 記録されない大会となりましたが、当時の選手たちは、それでも「野球をやっていて良かった」「甲子園に来られて良かった」と振り返っています。
So, the games were never recorded but players still thought that it
was great to be able to play baseball or to come to play at Koshien. 終戦から11年後の昭和31年、平安高校が全国優勝を果たしました。その時、胴上げされた監督は、あの時の富樫投手でした。とめどなく涙が溢れていました。
Eleven years passed after the war ended, and it was in 1956 when
the Heian High won the national baseball championship in Koshien. The manager of the team, who was tossed into the air by his students to express their joy, was him, TOGOSHI. TOGOSHI’s eyes were full of tears.

歴史を見ても、日本の「ものづくり」に対する熱意、技術の習得・普及の速さ
に驚かされることがあります。
When we look back at the history, we are sometimes amazed at the
enthusiasm for manufacturing and speed of learning skill and of
diffusion of such skills. 天文12（1543）年の今日、8月25日は種子島に鉄砲が伝来した日です。この地を統治していたのは平家の末裔に当たる種子島時尭（ときたか）。彼は漂流したポルトガル船に乗り込んだ時に鉄砲を見つけます。興味を持ち、その威力を知った時尭は、２挺を買い、刀鍛冶の八板金兵衛に複製を命じます。
Guns reached the Tanegashima Island on 25 August 1543.
The island was then reigned by Mr. TANEGASHIMA Tokitaka, descendant of the Taira family. He found the guns when he got onboard the drifting Portuguese ship. He became interested, and found its power. He bought 2 guns and requested YAITA Kinbe, a swordsmith, to copy it 命じられた金兵衛。複製と言っても、そう簡単にはいきません。当時の火縄銃は筒底にたまる火薬のカスを捨てる必要がありました。そうしないと暴発する恐れがあったのです。カスを捨てるために、筒底をネジで止める必要があるのですが、当時の日本にネジの技術がなかったのです。
Kinbe struggled to make a copy. It was necessary to dump the
remained gunpowder staying at the bottom of the gunbarrel of the harquebus/hάɚkwɪb`ʌs, ‐bəs｜hάːkwɪbəs/ to avoid accidental discharge. The bottom needed to screwed to the body but there was no technology to make screws in Japan then. 技術を得るための交換条件として、やむなく金兵衛は自分の娘である若狭姫をポルトガル人に嫁がせるのです。彼の苦悩が想像できます。これが日本人の国際結婚第１号と言われています。こうしてネジの技術が日本に伝わり、鉄砲の大量生産につながっていきます。
In exchange of acquiring the technology Kinbe had to let her daughter
Wakasa marry a Portuguese, which must have agonized him. This is said to be the first International marriage of Japanese. The acquired technology of screws led to the mas-production of the guns. 信長が鉄砲製造の中心地に成長した近江に 500挺注文したのは、伝来から６年後のこと。長篠の戦で4000挺近く使ったのは伝来から32年後のことです。
Nobunaga placed an order for 500 guns with Omi, centre of the gun
manufacturing 6 years after the gun was introduced to Japan. It was 32 years after the gun came to Japan that 4000 or so guns were used at the battle of Nagashino. 努力と苦悩の末、またたく間に技術を自分のものにした日本人。江戸時代に入るまで鉄砲を輸出していたようです。これにより、欧州列強国は日本を植民地にすることを諦めたという説もあります。
Japanese mastered how to make the guns after huge efforts and

ムスメは、休みともなると1日1冊は本を読むので、買わされるクラクラは大変です。それも、Book offには良い本がないと、いつも新刊書を買わされます！
マンガはあっという間に読み終えるので嫌いらしい。それはいいこと。
クラクラ家ではTVゲームは禁止なので、本だけは好きなだけ買い与えています。
囲碁がゲームと思っているから、やりたいといわないのかもですけど。 週に一度の翻訳です♪

「自分が生を与えられたことに、ありがとうと自然に声が出るようなことがあ
ればいいと思っています」
物静かに語るのは聖路加国際病院の理事長 日野原重明さん。
昨年の10月4日に満100歳になられました。今も現役の医師として活躍されてい
ます。
日野原さんは、昭和45年に起きた「よど号ハイジャック事件」では、ハイ
ジャックされた飛行機の中にいて、いつ殺されても分からないという状況の中、
機内で4日間も過ごしました。
解放され、自宅に戻った時の気持ちを後にこう語っています。
「亡くしたはずの命。再びもらったという思いが強かった。今まで経験したこ
とがないほど謙虚な気持ちになった。これからの人生は全て与えられた命。」
あれから40年以上が経ちました。最近は、全国各地に出かけていって、小学生
に対し「いのちの授業」を行っています。「皆さんは自分のために自分の時間
を使ってきたと思います。大人になったら、誰か困っている人のために時間を
使って欲しい」
「あなたたちに平和の実現を託したい」とも。
「他人の傷み、悲しみ、寒さ、ひもじさを想像し、感じ取る力が今の時代、乏
しくなってませんか？」
「テレビやネットで戦争や苦しみを知った時から、もう見知らぬ人ではない。
自分とつながっている存在なのです。」
「もし、こぶしを振り上げたくなっても待って欲しい。立ち止まって考えて欲
しい。もっと強い人間になって欲しい。」
「相手を許した時から、失ったものにこだわる君から、これからのことを考え
ようとする君に大きく変わっているはずです」

Dr. Hinohara, Chairman of Seiroka (St.Luke's) International Hospital,
quietly said ” it'd be nice to come to spontaneously mention THANK
YOU for my very existence. “ He became 100 years old on 4 October 2011. He still continues to work as a doctor.
At the time of "JAL flight 351 hijack event" in 1970, Dr. Hinohara
spent four days in the hijacked airplane where he felt he might be
killed at any time.
When he was released he said at home “This life of mine might have
been lost. I feel that I was given the new life. I have never felt more
modest to date. My life in the future is really a life newly given.”
More than 40 years have passed, and now he often goes to
nationwide tour to give “lecture of life” to the elementary school
students. He says “you guys spent your time only for yourselves.
When you have become adults, try to use your time for people in
need.”
“I want you to realize peace on this planet.”
“I feel that people lack an ability to feel and perceive someone else’s
pain, sorrow, coldness, and poverty.”
“Once you see war or pain through TV or internet, you are no more
strangers. You are connected with them”
“If you feel you want to attack someone, just stop to think twice.
Be strong.”
“Forgive him/her, and you can become one who think about the
future, not past.”

昨年6月、小笠原諸島は世界遺産に登録されました。
4000万年以上前に海底の火山活動でできた約30の島々で、歴史上、一度も陸続
きになったことがありません。
動植物は、独自の進化を遂げていて「東洋のガラパゴス」と呼ばれています。
体長13センチのメグロという鳥は、地面のアリを探して食べます。小鳥が頻繁
に地面に下りるのは、小笠原ならではの光景です。
独自の自然とともに、数奇な歴史を持っているのも小笠原です。
太平洋戦争では、日本軍が本土防衛の要塞を築いていたため、激しい戦闘が繰
り広げられました。戦後、日本に返還されたのは昭和43年、終戦から実に23年
も経った後でした。
幕末の嘉永6年（1853年）にはペリー一行が本土へ行く前に立ち寄り、捕鯨基
地を建設するために土地を住民から購入しています。その後、江戸幕府が領有
を宣言したため、以後、日本領となりました。
そもそも、無人島だったこの島々に移住民がやってきたのは1830年のこと。最
初にやって来た25名の中に日本人はいなく、アメリカ人、イギリス人、イタリ
ア人あるいはハワイ出身の人々でした。その後、日本人が加わったのです。
大正時代、父島で撮られた１枚の写真が残っています。そこには、異なる人種
や民族、宗教の人々が仲良く写っています。狭い土地の中で、譲り合い、分か
ち合いながら暮らしていたのでしょう。
これだけ文明社会が進歩しても、民族や宗教の争いが絶えないこの社会。小笠
原は、今もって世界が成しえない理想社会をいち早く実現していたのです。

(クラクラ翻訳) The Ogasawara islands were nominated as the World Heritage site in June 2011. They consist of about 30 islands raised by the underwater volcano activities more than 40 million years ago, and have never been connected to each other or to any continents. The fauna and flora have seen unique evolution and are called the
Oriental Galapagos. Meguro or Bonin white-eye, a bird of 13 cm in length, eats ants on the ground. It is unique to Ogasawara that a bird goes down onto the earth often. Ogasawara has a pretty unique nature as well as is full of the
vicissitudes /vɪsísət(j)ùːd｜vɑɪsísətjùːd/ of history. During the WWII, the Japanese army built fortresses here to protect
the main islands, and so they encountered the fierce combat with US. After the war, it was in 1968, 23 years after the war, that the islands were returned to Japan. In 1853, Commodore/kάməd`ɔɚ｜kˈɔməd`ɔː/ Perry dropped in at
the islands before visiting the main islands of Japan, and purchased the lands from the residents to construct the bases for whaling. Then, the Tokugawa shogunate declared the ownership of the islands, and since then the islands have been the Japanese territory. The islands were uninhabited/`ʌnɪnhˈæbɪṭɪd/ at first but people
started to immigrate in 1830. The first 25 visitors didn't include any Japanese, but consisted of Americans, British, Italians, and Hawaiians. Then, the Japanese joined. Here remains a photo taken at Chichijima Island during around 1920.
The photo shows many different people living friendly together, despite difference of race and religion. I guess that they were living happily here on the small islands, sharing things. Current world is full of conflicts due to difference of race or religion,
