Islam is a great religion . Islam encourages people to outperform . It is so clearly evident in the Indian subcontinent . The Indian Film Industry has been dominated by Muslims in all spheres . Even Pakistani Gazal Singers have a larger following in India as compared to that in Pakistan . Similarly , Indian Cricket Team always had Muslim players and some , like Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and Azharuddin have been its Captain . All this , despite the fact that Muslims are a minority in India and constitute about 14 percent of India's population .

In my opinion , Islam is a passionate religion . It is able to unite Muslims through Namaz and Ramzan . The Muslim gatherings in mosques on Fridays provide a perfect opportunity to religious extremists to exhort Muslims . So , just as in the non-terrorist activities , Muslims excel in terrorist activities also .

The West's response to Muslim terrorism has been knee-jerk . After 9/11 , US started a thorough examination of Muslim visitors to US . Yet , the aggressive stance of Sunni Muslims has not been tamed . Equally horrible acts have been committed by Sunni Muslims all over the world even after 9/11 .

The main reason for spread of Muslim Terrorism is that Saudi Arab does not want Islam to change with the times .

Here , a peep into the origin of Islam deserves attention . It is worth noting that the very first verse of the Holy Koran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad when he was 40 years old . Prior to that Prophet Muhammad was a trader . Islam originated with that first revelation . Then , by the age of 63 , Prophet Muhammad was dead . Within that short period of 23 years , Islam was born and became strong enough to defeat non-Islamists in Saudi Arab . This unbelievable achievement underscores the aggressiveness and the judiciousness of Islam as a religion .

But , the world is no longer the same it was 1500 years ago . People no longer live in isolated communities . Goods are no longer transported on camels . Traders are not away from home for months at a stretch . Roadside dacoity and small territorial wars are now a thing of the past . Silver and gold coins no longer rule the business world . The world has changed a lot . Yet , Islam did not change with the times . That is the prime cause of present Muslim Terrorism .

Incidentally , a modern Muslim religious leader recognised the need for change in Islam . He established a new Muslim community . While the members of this new Muslim Community acknowledge Prophet Muhammad and the Holy Koran , they do not promote aggressive Islam . The members of this new Community are known as Ahmadiyyas . Ahmadiyyas originated in India and flourished while India was under the British Rule . In 1947 , when India became independent , the British carved out Pakistan out of India for the Indian Muslims and Ahmadiyyas naturally opted to settle in Pakistan .

However , circumstances took a turn for the worse for Ahmadiyyas in Pakistan . As noted earlier , Saudi Arab had no love for Ahmadiyyas . Then , in 1974 , after India tested a nuclear device , Pakistan felt compelled to acquire nuclear capability . But , acquisition of nuclear technology was expensive and Pakistan needed financial help . So , Zulfikar Ali Bhutto , the then Prime Minister of Pakistan turned to Saudi Arab for help . Saudis agreed to help Pakistan provided Pakistan declared Ahmadiyyas non-Muslims . Bhutto agreed and Ahmadiyyas were declared non-Muslims in Pakistan in 1974 itself . Because of their non-aggressive teachings , no mayhem occurred in Pakistan due to this de-recognition . Had Ahmadiyyas been as violent as Sunni Muslims , perhaps they might not have waited for Jia-Ul-Haq to do the needful . Jia-Ul-Haq hanged Bhutto in 1979 .

The US and the European Countries have confronted Muslim Terrorism in a childish manner . Their handling of the problem is comparable to the watering of the leaves of a water-starved plant . Actually speaking , the West needs to promote Ahmadiyya like flavour of Islam . The West needs to take serious note of the de-recognition of Ahmadiyyas in Pakistan . It needs to be reminded here that the First Muslim to win a Nobel Prize was an Ahmadiyya ! Dr. Abdus Salam was awarded a Nobel Prize for Physics in 1979 while he had been forced out of Pakistan and settled in UK . The great irony was that Dr. Abdus Salam was not even allowed to return to Pakistan to celebrate this honour in the company of his countrymen !

It should be clear to the West that Sunni Muslim Countries cannot help it in containing Muslim terrorism . The West has to do all by itself . To start with , West should exert pressure on Pakistan to reinstate the status of Ahmadiyyas as Muslims . Moreover , West should recognise Ahmadiyyas as genuine Asylum seekers at least 2 layers above Sunni Muslims . Beyond that , West should encourage conversion of Muslims to the Ahmadiyya sect . This could be the best antidote to aggressive Islam as practiced by Sunni Muslims .
