Mentioning Japanese war criminal such as Tojo, and you can bet your bottom Yuan that you'll see imbeciles accusing Bush is also a war criminal. Their small brains can not understand the difference, i.e., Bush was ACCUSED by some of the war crime, while Tojo was convicted by an international court, more importantly, this court's legitimacy was recognized and accepted unconditionally by nation of Japan... well, small brains can not wrap around that iron-clad logic, can they?

The losing country of war could not have any choice other than to accept the farcical judgement of international court organized by the winning countries. And this does not inevitably mean that the judgment is completely legitimate under the international law. What is most reliable is the opinions of international lawyers who are on the neutral position on the matter, not the fact that the losing country was substantially obliged to accept the judgement prepared by the winning countries being full of revenge.

The times they are a-changin', it seems...
A Japan bashing article and Chinese posters get fewer recommendations than China cynic/critic Clint! Which shouldn't be surprising in a liberal Western publication but hasn't been the case for years...
China's "new normal" looks indeed as if the country's finally becoming a normal country. A trend that's not yet sufficiently appreciated by outside critics/cynics...
.
One day China will face its demons, too. More genuinely than Japan perhaps.
Albeit, not yet.

Abe is a grandson of Class 1 international War criminal or alternatively, a War Hero in Japan. The Japs government has protested that theirs is a normal country now and, they can grieve for the loss of the innocent civilian lives nuked in Nagasaki and Hiroshima. But these civilian victims should not be lumped together in their hero worship of the right-wing Heroes that were enshrined in Yasukuni. This is because their so-called War-heroes were responsible for the genocides and loss for 10's of million of innocent lives in the Asia-Pacific Wars.

"This is because their so-called War-heroes were responsible for the genocides and loss for 10's of million of innocent lives in the Asia-Pacific Wars."

Not as many as the Communist Party and its military wing the PLA has killed in its time. There should be no shrines to the PLA.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said a couple of days ago in a news conference responding a NHK reporter in no uncertain terms that

" Japan lost the war 70 years ago, Japan should not lose it conscience 70 years later."

He was being kind. Japan lost a lot more than war 70 years ago. Japan surrendered and lost its dignity and self respect in addition to the war. Look it today, no matter how you put it, Japan is still a slave state and a proxy at best, and its economy a mess.

Some posters here bash China no end, that's good in a way because at least it shows that they envy and fear China and China commanded their attention. But who cares what Japan worships today? I don't care and TE does not care. A nation who does not respect itself in its own history deserve no respect from others. That's the reason why nobody gives a shxx about Japan anymore----Not because Japan is considerably weaker or poorer, but because Japan is morally bankrupt.

"but because Japan is morally bankrupt."

Not as morally bankrupt as China. Locking up and persecuting your own patriots is moral bankruptcy. Japan lost its dignity in the past. China loses it today.

Once Japan was a very pacific country, but suddenly the military ship of occidental countries came to her coasts around 1850 A.D. and imposed her to conclude very unilateral and inequitable treaties. That was the time when GB and other occidental countries invaded world-wide, including China. What else could do, Japan? The way to be one of the great powers, which means that Japan would have colonies and get natural resources in Asian countries, looked very necessary for the Japanese people at that time.
