裏庭の餌台に来たLesser Goldfinchの♂です。Lesser Goldfinch（ヒメキンヒワ）はGoldfinch（オウゴンヒワ）の中で最も小さい種。体長１１〜１２ｃｍ

The Lesser Goldfinch or Dark-backed Goldfinch (Carduelis psaltria) is a very small songbird of the Americas. Together with its relatives the American Goldfinch and Lawrence's Goldfinch, it forms the American goldfinches clade in the genus Carduelis sensu stricto.
The American goldfinches can be distinguished by the males having a black (rarely green) forehead, whereas the latter is (like the rest of the face) red or yellow in the European Goldfinch and its relatives. North American males are markedly polymorphic and 5 subspecies are often named; at least 2 of them seem to represent a less-progressed stage in evolution however.

 

 

 

 

 

セジロコゲラ(Downy Woodpecker)

Downy woodpecker（セジロコゲラ） はHairy Woodpecker（セジロアカゲラ）とよく似ていますが、Downyの方が小さく、クチバシも短いです。どちらも背に白い筋があるのが特徴です。♂は後頭部が赤いです。

 

写真は裏庭のサクランボの木に来たもので、背の白い筋ははっきり写っていませんが、Downyの♂と思います。

The Downy Woodpecker, Picoides pubescens, is the smallest woodpecker in North America. Adults are mainly black on the upper parts and wings, with a white back, throat and belly and white spotting on the wings. There is a white bar above the eye and one below. They have a black tail with white outer feathers barred with black. Adult males have a red patch on the back of the head whereas juvenile birds display a red cap.

 

Downy Woodpeckerは北米のキツツキの中で最も小型の種です。

 

 

後頭部が赤く、♂です。 

 

 

クチバシは短いです。 

 

 

背中にわずかに白い筋が見えます。

コマツグミが庭に来ると図体が大きいのでフィンチなどの小さな野鳥が皆逃げていきます。綺麗な声で鳴いてくれるのは良いのですが。

コマツグミ（学名：Turdus migratorius）は、スズメ目ツグミ科に分類される鳥類の一種。渡り鳥である。 同じく胸が橙赤色であるヨーロッパコマドリ（英名：Robin, European Robin）にちなみ「アメリカンロビン」と呼ばれ、アメリカで単に「ロビン」と言えば本種のことである。

 

全長約25〜28cm。体重約77g。

 

北アメリカ大陸に広く分布し、コネチカット、ミシガン、ウィスコンシンの州鳥でもあります。

The American Robin or North American Robin(Turdus migratorius) is a migratory songbird of the thrush family. It is named after the European Robin because of its reddish-orange breast, though the two species are not closely related, with the European robin belonging to the flycatcher family. The American Robin is widely distributed throughout North America, wintering south of Canada from Florida to central Mexico and along the Pacific Coast. It is the state bird of Connecticut, Michigan, and Wisconsin. It has seven subspecies, but only T. m. confinis in the southwest is particularly distinctive, with pale gray-brown underparts.

ハチドリ

この１週間でハチドリを何度か見ました。恐らくAnna's Hummingbirdと思われます。

体長８〜１０ｃｍ、体重４ｇ、と鳥の中では最も小さい種。

合衆国南西部からアルゼンチン北部にかけてのアメリカ（カリブ諸島を含む）に生息する。

  

毎秒約55回、最高で約80回の高速ではばたき、空中で静止するホバリング飛翔を行う。
「ブンブン」 とハチと同様の羽音を立てるため、ハチドリ（蜂鳥）と名付けられた。

花の蜜を主食としており、ホバリングで空中で静止しながら、花の中にクチバシをさしこみ、蜜を吸うという独特の食事の取り方をする。花の蜜を吸うためにクチバシは細長い形状をしている。そのため、昆虫であるスズメガが生息する地域では、成虫の動作が酷似するため、しばしば両者を見間違うことがある

メキシコマシコ (House Finch)

裏庭にバードフィーダーを置いてあります。ユキヒメドリが頻繁に訪れますが、それに誘われるようにフィンチ類も来てくれるようになりました。

メキシコマシコ（学名：Carpodacus mexicanus）は、スズメ目アトリ科に分類される鳥類の一種。
オオマシコ、アカマシコの近縁種

Originally only a resident of Mexico and the southwestern United States, they were

introduced to eastern North America in the 1940s. The birds were sold illegally in New York City[6] as "Hollywood Finches", a marketing artifice.[5] To avoid prosecution

under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918, vendors and owners released the birds.

They have become naturalized; in some unforested areas, they have displaced the

native Purple Finch and non-native House Sparrow.[9] In 1870, or before, they were

introduced into Hawaii

 

和名「メキシコ」はこの鳥が元々メキシコと米国南西部だけに住むresident bird（留鳥）だったため付けられたと思われます。恐らく西部開拓等による人の移動とともに北西海岸、カナダ南西部までの農場や住宅地へと広がったのでしょう。wikiによると米国東部への拡散は１９４０年代、東部のペットショップが生け捕りにしたメキシコマシコを"Hollywood Finch"と銘打って違法販売したのが発端だそうです。しかし、そのペットショップは訴追を恐れ、捕獲した鳥を全てリリースしました。メキシコマシコは住宅環境に順応・繁殖したため、それまでいたPurple Finch や家スズメを駆逐したそうです。人による生態系の破壊の一例でしょう。

 

体長１３〜１５ｃｍ。スズメとほぼ同じ大きさです。

 

 

メキシコマシコは４〜５羽の群れで来ます。家族なのかな？左が♂、右（手前）が♀です。

こちらは ♀です。赤くありません。

こちらは幼鳥のようです。目先が少し赤く、頬紅をつけているようで面白い。 

 

 バードバスからブドウの蔓に移動しました。
